Transylvania 6-5000

Somewhere in 1984 Ronald Oberschwimmer watched "Young Frankenstein" and thought "You know what, this would have been a lot better with Jeff Goldblum and Ed Begley Jr., three days later he was found dead in his one bedroom apartment in lower Manhattan next to a script and a contract with the devil signed in blood. After a swift government cover-up, no one ever saw the script again. Yet, in 1985 this film was released, and Goldblum, Begley, Kane, and Davis have absolutely no memory of it.

In 1985, a crack comedy unit was sent to prison by a military court for a movie in which they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Yugoslavian underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as a wolfman, a frankenstein, a mummy, a mad scientist, a vampiress and Michael Richards. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the Transylvania 6-5000.

This movie made me fall hopelessy in love with Geena Davis at age 11. Typical 80's comedy, but a great cast. It's hilarious watching Jeff Goldblum bulging his eyes constantly like he can't believe he's in such a junky film. Guilty pleasure.

Surprisingly, I watched a movie, not an outtakes reel.

It's bad. It's not horrible. It isn't one of the bad movies I especially enjoyed, because it was still a little too close to being solvent. But! My friend laughed constantly all throughout, assuring me, "Oh this part's funny!" and so maybe it's just autism.

It's a movie that trues really hard and completely falls on its face.

It's no Young Frankenstein, that's for sure. It's a horror-comedy at the extreme end of goofy that is extremely hit or miss. For every joke that lands there are three or four that don't just miss but are outright confusing in what is supposed to be funny about them. Transylvania 6-5000 is aggressively stupid but has a love for classic horror pulsing through its veins and got enough dumb laughs out of me to be just barely worthwhile.

Bad horror spoof, in which the jokes fall flat. Geena Davis is memorably sexy as a nympomaniacal vampiress, however.

Goldblum and Begley make a potentially good team and there's a terrific supporting cast but this typically '80s _Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein_ tribute isn't even as funny as _The Bowery Boys Meet the Monsters_. Only Davis (as a sex-starved vampiress), Jones (as a tourist-trapping innkeeper out to turn a fast buck), and Richards (as a goofy manservant) bring any spark to the proceedings. The *trailer* was funnier!

Dumb but likable. And Geena Davis is gorgeous. Who knows? I might even watch it again.

WOW ED BEGLEY JR IS SO ZANY

a lame comedy.

A movie seen two decades ago, it was funny enough at the time, despite a mediocre cast and shows why Ed Begley Jr. is just famous enough to be remembered today, but not famous enough that anyone can remember anything he actually did.

Typical campy, schlocky 80's fare comedy, on par with your Police Academies and the like, only with a horror spoof flare.

I remember virtually nothing about it other than that I absolutely hated it.

Was able to squeeze Gena Davis into a Vampirella-esque costume, that's gotta count for something... Right? No, I guess not either. John Byner did a good stint as Radu the hunchback too.
