To me Transient Lady (1935) built a solid foundation of wrongful imprisonment and small town lynch mob mentality, but they fumble it with one of the weakest court cases on film, and a almost as poor plea for a innocent man's life as the town gets angry. Shame, for there was a lot going for this with the rumor mill and general village weirdness.
