Certain things are just objectively true. Water is wet. The sky is blue. The Pope is Catholic. Gingers have no souls. And Michael Bay's Transformers movies are incredibly bad. And while this first one is not the mind-blowing trainwreck that many of its sequels would become, it's still a terrible movie - a bloated, sluggish mass of sexism, racism, 'splosions, horrible comic relief, and characters that annoy me to the point of frothing madness. A cinematic cumsock.

Total bomb. I can't believe this movie is two and a half hours long when its only redeeming quality is Shia LaBeouf. The "comedic relief" is insultingly bad and painfully unfunny. I don't want to watch a transformer piss lube all over some guy's head. That's just embarrassing. Michael Bay sucks.

Typical Michael Bay cliche-ridden-patronize-your-audience clusterfuck. Awkward, condescending dialogue and character interactions. Pointless subplots. I only moderately enjoyed a few scenes involving the Transformers destroying shit, which were worth nothing more than just that. I'm pretty astounded by the fact that Bay "subtly" name-drops Armageddon. Who the fuck does this motherfucker think he is? I'll tell you. He's a fucking middle-aged frat boy with money and Hollywood connections. Die.

A supreme disappointment. The movie felt like a 3 hour GMC commercial. The CG was blurry & overdone most of the time, though it looks very impressive at times. As cool as flashing lights and big explosions are, it gave me a headache watching those fight scenes! The sub-stories (the soldiers, and Sam's romance) add unnecessary time & character development, when the movie should have focused more on the robots. The soundtrack and dialogue were bad too, but I wasn't expecting much anyway.

HOLY CRAP, this was awful. It's way too long, and the Transformers themselves--which are not entirely faithful to the cartoon but still have impressive designs--take a back seat to annoying generic characters. There are an unbelievable amount of unfunny jokes and gags, the action is boring, and the plot is ridiculous. Let me say this: Hot Rod fishing with Daniel in the in '86 film was less silly than this movie.

The action at the end is good (although too much shakycam) and the CG is always impressive. It's just a pity that 2/3rds of the film is fulled with awful dialogue, a romance subplot that goes nowhere, "hilarious" scenes like the robots tiptoeing around the kid's garden and hiding from his parents, the least funny parent/teen sex talk ever, transformers peeing jokes, and a fat angry black man/aussie girl subplot that takes up lots of screentime but goes NOWHERE. A typical Bay film.

Cars, hot girls, giant robots and explosions. And yet, besides the amazing special effects and CGI, the film is very shallow and generic. Bad dialogue, uneven acting, and Bay's mundane directing really kill a premise that should be pretty easy to execute. Even the action scenes fall short.

Though the acting is often over the top, it's often warranted. After all, it's not like they were going for all out realism. The CG is flawless and works very well with the practical effects. Above all else, Transformers has non-stop entertainment with solid pacing and excellent action. Most importantly, for fans like myself, it's quite true to the source. Finally, it's possibly the best work of director Michael Bay, who clearly focused on what he's best at: visual flare. Awesome!

Do you enjoy watching gigantic robots fighting and totally demolishing all buildings in their paths? If not, then you will still most likely enjoy watching Megan Fox and Shia LaBeouf instead. Stupid dialogue, too much shakey-cam, and many pointless scenes and characters that could have easily been trimmed out without impacting the movie at all. Some of the action was decent, but half the time you can't even tell what the hell is going on due to the robots being one giant blurry ball of metal. However, the robots themselves did look cool.

I never found the Transformers cartoon particularly interesting or insightful but rather an excuse to sell action figures. As such I thought Michael Bay was the perfect choice to direct this as he knows how to make things explode. Sure it's full of cheese, just like the old tv show, but this is solid entertainment. The action scenes are fantastically filmed from a bystander of a giant robot fight perspective. If you enjoy fun mindless action flicks check this out. If not, pass on it.

Just another stupid, cliched action movie. I expected the silly dialogue and poor characterization. I didn't expect them to fuck up the concept so badly - "good robots fight bad robots" isn't all that complicated, is it? But the film spends so much time on unlikeable humans that the transformers become secondary, the opposite of their role on the show. Plus they neutered Prime, that shit is inexcusable.

Transformers is not just bad, it is a movie that openly seems to have disdain for what should be its biggest fans. It constantly ponders in fan of horrible comedy, the action is so clustered it boarders on unwatchable, and even the "heroes" are insufferable jerks. The only redeeming character is so objectified by the film-making itself, that it is impossible to have any sympathy with her.

An epic-feeling triple-perspective narrative makes things exciting, and welcome shots of humour injected into the sci-fi war plot continually keep things fun (see Anderson's hyper hacker; LaBeouf's lovable loser, quirky parents, sensitive car). The Transformers can be cheesy though (see Optimus' speeches), and both Fox's turn and the final fight leave something to be desired (see her puzzling tow-truck escapades; Sam having to run with the cube), so it's not the perfect film, but it's enjoyable.

What a pleasant surprise! I really liked this movie! I thought it had an interesting story-line with some intellectual and moral questions as well as fun characters. I was amazed at how quickly I took a liking to the characters, and along the same lines, how quickly I took to the Autobot characters! The animation was great, and I thought that the emotions of the transformers came across without "cheating" on the robotic facial/movement abilities. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and fun film!

Completely Michael Bay. That means : bad characters, stupid throwaway gags, lots of product placement, and a bad script with terribly cheesy lines. Luckily though, its ALLOWED to be stupid because its based on fucking ACTION FIGURES. Good action and eye candy make it worth watching even though you will be rolling your eyes constantly. While not the best action movie of 2007 (see: Live Free or Die Hard), Transformers is still a thrill ride that should be seen in the theaters or not at all. The visual effects are stunning and surely are the best yet seen in a movie; the transformers looked photorealistic which, in the beginning of the movie, made the initial decepticon attacks all the more terrifying. It's a really fun movie, and if you can get over the cheesy plot--which really should be expected in a movie about Transforme

Even if if this movie didn't poop on everything I loved about Transformers as a child, it's still a really bad movie. Though I haven't seen them, I rated all the sequels a zero simply because they are universally recognized as worse (though that's hard to believe). The lead pair are far from interesting, and unfortunately most of the bots have none of the presence or personality from the animated series. Oddly enough, it's got some likable characters and some of Bay's most comprehensible action. The production and editing is also very good. To be fair, taking this and making it into anything that approaches quality is inconceivable. Warring robots in space, fighting over a cube that holds the "All Spark"? A fleet of evil robots yelling "All hail Megatron"? If this is the raw material, creating a modern classic is beyond the capabilities of anyone's moviemaking alchemy. It has the intellectual heft of the storylines that ten-year-old jabberjaws came up with in the backyard tractor tire sandbox when Hasbro spat out the original toys.

Mostly unexciting, too much shakycam, cheap jokes and crap that happens for no reason and all and goes absolutely nowhere. I'd forgive it if it weren't for the shakycam. Dammit I want to be able to see the action.

I've got a long list of things that were entirely wrong about this movie and only two things that were great: Shia LaBeouf and Optimus Prime. I guess I enjoyed it because of them and in spite of almost everything else.

bay's shaky camera combined with his lens preferences and ever-slowing editing style, just gave me headaches. LaBeouf was quite charming. but the comic efforts by turturro's character were totally lame. I only wished the "mindblowing" finale to be over ASAP. and a lot of xenophobia going on...
