Visible boom mike! It's really low budget and the plot's full of holes. There are stretches of boredom here and there. The basic premise isn't explained very well at all. I also got a big laugh out of the concert scene where the music stops and everybody keeps dancing. Go sound editing! On the other hand, it's got a fun, unique story, and the acting isn't bad at all. I can't say it's a good movie, and yet I enjoyed it.

Surprisingly good for a cheesy 80s low budget sci-fi film. Some moments are unintentionally hilarious (such as the awkward slow motion time stop sequences), but overall it's an entertaining film. It also gets points for randomly taking place during Christmas and including a scene where a punk band plays their version of Jingle Bells.

Pretty good for a Full Moon film. Check out the lovely Helen Hunt in an early role, too!

Not really that great, but warrants commendation for a virtue not usually seen in *any* kind of film, much less a B sf/action picture: as Duncan Shepherd put it, "the intention not so much to be downright funny as just not to be altogether serious"

In so many ways this awful, but I can't deny I was entertained by the crazy sci-fi setup and the odd use of neo-noir style. It's one of those messes that congeals just so and becomes better than it has any right to be.

Watch buddy asked beforehand for a movie that wasn't "too shitty" and I came up with this. I think we both enjoyed the 80s overload.

Helen Hunt was such a piece, I'd stay in the past for her too. Aside from that, obviously the special effects are silly today but it's not the end of the world. It's a decently told body switching sci-fi with light horror elements, and as such, it's not especially memorable but also never boring. I'd consider it low-tier "good."

'Timecop' meets 'Blade Runner' in the decent section of a (almost) straight to video dungeon. Hell yeah! Thomerson is awesome, and never in a million years would I have guessed that Helen Hunt were starring in something like this (not to mention two out of the five-ish sequels!).

Trancers is pretty bad. Mostly entertaining bad, but also just bad. The final act feels pretty flat, and the climax itself is hilarious for acknowledging (what I'm dubbing) "The Source Code Problem" and then choosing to run with it anyway without even an ethical hangover. Bonus points for being a secret Christmas film (zombie santa)!

Although corny and riddled with weak dialogue, I enjoyed this sci-fi action/comedy.

Shockingly good for something to come out of the Chuck Band/Full Moon oeuvre, and everything you could possibly want out of a no-budget rip-off of Blade Runner and The Terminator with some zombies thrown in for good measure.

With a killer concept and surprisingly assured direction, Trancers is a few notches above most B-movie science fiction. The pace is great, performances contain the right amont of silly desperation, and the effects are restrained enough to keep this entertaining 30 years later.

Its lake of missing exposition, awful production quality, and laughable story choices had upon its surface a patina of what it had been really aiming for, which is ... better than nothing, I guess. (Culture Night Feature)

I love cyberpunk which probably accounts for 10 or 20 points of my score. If you don't like cyberpunk as a genre or you don't like cheesy 80's action flicks then you probably won't enjoy Trancers as much as I did. Helen Hunt plays the young love interest to Tim Thomerson's old grizzled cop. The two of them make a strange couple in the same fashion as Harold and Maude or Anne Bancroft and Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate. Trancers has a good mix of comedy and seriousness. It's fun and watchable.

Band's effective mish-mash of Blade Runner, The Terminator and old Hollywood noir conventions is a quirky and charming little film that is surprisingly well made. Its success is mostly the result of Thomerson's performance--whose characterisation of Jack Deth is wryly pitched somewhere between Bogart and Eastwood--and Ahlberg's atmospheric Scott-meets-Mann cinematography which paints L.A in vivid neon drenched hues.

Trancers begins with a voice-over narration by protagonist of the movie - Jack Deth - that could have been lifted directly from Raymond Chandler novel, if those novels were set in 23rd century LA. Even though it is a very cheap b-movie that 'borrows' a lot from Blade Runner and Terminator, it has that special charm. There isn't much action in it and not enough of craziness that would make Trancers appealing for occasional b-movie watcher, but for my refined taste in trash it was a treat.

As a 12 year old I loved this, doesn't seem quite so charming today but there are still a couple of scenes that raise a smile.
