Tracers

Despite featuring impressive cinematography, Tracers succumbs to uninspired writing and wooden storytelling.

The action scenes are pretty impressive and entertaining, unfortunately, the rest of the film is very Meh.

Hollywood makes almost no stories about working class people anymore, so it has that going for it. The concept is silly but it's handled as realistically as it can be. I've developed a soft spot for Taylor Lautner, who deserves to be respected as a dual actor-stuntperson. With all that out of the way: this movie's not good. It doesn't have enough propelling story beats. But it is watchable.

I had no idea Jacob from Twilight was such a talented stunt man. One point for team Jacob. He learned to parkour for this movie, and that is an incredible accomplishment. Tracers has great action directing and parkour scenes. However, the storyline is extremely weak. It is predictable, but more than being predictable, it is halfhearted. Great, exciting use of parkour skills. There is violence, some use of guns, but not entirely. Love use of younger actors (early 20s). Must watch for action lovers.There is a love triangle , and rivalries between different "gang-like" groups. Plot developed well. Love how Taylor doesn't get the girl that easily. Both Taylor Lautner and Marie Avgeropoulos play their role very well. They're part of a group called Tracers, which delivers illegal secret items using parkour while risking their lives.

Cam (Taylor Lautner) in this fast-paced action movie which takes place on the streets and rooftops of NYC The film starts with him working as a bike messenger trying to pay back his loan from a crime gang. He soon literally lands on top of Nikki (Marie Avgeropoulos), and is soon immersed in her world of parkour. As he works with her friends and leader Miller he soon learns that he has become disposable. In the end, of course, he and Nikki end up driving out of NYC together in his dad's car.

Okay, I get that the director is trying to create a melancholy urban atmosphere, but in doing so he makes this street jumping action film terribly boring. Could have worked with all the spectacular leaps of death, but in all the ambiance and stunts he forgets to build the characters who comes across so empty. Not even that Twilight guy managed to rise above the material regardless of his agility. Dull.

Besides the plot contrivances, expecting Lautner to turn into a vampire and the godawful shakey cam, it was pretty good. The Parkour or tracer (gynastic) sequences were exceptional, especially after I learned that they didn't use wires or f/x (except for a couple of scenes I'm presuming).

Is Tracers a good movie? No. Everything apart from the action is a failure, and since that amounts to at least half of its running time, that much of the film doesn't work and is a chore to sit through. The actors aren't good at carrying the slow moments, the dialogue is laughable, the plot is silly, the characters are shallow, and there isn't a moment of self-awareness to be found. What does work is whenever the film decides to focus on people running and climbing around New York City.
