If the mannequin episode of "The Twilight Zone", "The After Hours"(1960), got remade as a feature length slasher, but the filmmakers dropped acid and binge watched the TV series "The Rifleman" with a double bill of "Psycho"(1960) and "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre"(1974), could be one way to describe this surprisingly creepy, awkward fever dream of a film. Although not full of the expected gratuitous boobs and blood, this PG slasher is still worth a watch from fans of slashers and low-rent horror.

Weirdo PG masterpiece. I can't imagine the ratings board watching this and just shrugging, "I don't know, I guess if your mom is there it's fine." Not where I'd want to be as mannequins are creepy, but it's still less of a tourist trap than South Dakota's Wall Drug.

It's never suspenseful or scary, but could be fun to watch if creepy mannequins freak you out. Doesn't make any sense whatsoever, but that only adds to the experience. Why did those impossibly short jeans for women ever go out of fashion? Why??

Essentially a mashup of Psycho and TCM with some creepy dolls added in, which isn't a bad idea at all. While slow-paced by today's standards, it knows how to set a mood, the special effects are awesome, and even when the plot gets too bizarre for its own good at least it plays that to the hilt in the final twist.

Chuck Connors (think a very poor man's Kirk Douglas, with a Good Ole Boy flair) plays a simpleton and his murderous "brother," who has ESP, a thing for mannequins, a stalking fetish and a penchant for theatrics. It never really gets better than the opening sequence, which had me in the same fright as my first 2 AM, VHS exposure to Evil Dead. The rest doesn't quite come together, but it feels competent. Could be all the Psycho references.

Was the MPAA high when they gave this a PG rating? Having seen it when I was 8 or 9 years old, I finally understand my long standing fear of rednecks, Wayne Newton and Joan Rivers.

The sound of the first doll laughing was used as a sound effect in the original Crash Bandicoot for Ripper Roo's crazy laughter. How or why that decision was made, I have no idea. It's simple and rough around the edges but pretty enjoyable and fast-moving. If you have a mannequin phobia/fetish you will surely dig this movie a whole lot more

The characters aren't fleshed out at all and a lot of the first half is dull but while it's not really a good movie it is overall quite entertaining. I really like the whole ending sequence.

What an odd and creepy movie. But this one just hits harder for me cuz I'm terrified of dolls and mannequins and stuff like that. What a really bizarre/haunting soundtrack by Donaggio. Totally ahead of it's time in some ways and very 1979 in others. Connors (who I only really know as the dude from the old show I used to watch with my grandpa The Rifleman) portrays crazy very well. Really creepy/funny ending as well.

Has the right idea about mannequins' potential spookiness due to their occupying the uncanny valley. Other than that it's one of the most badly aged of the 1970s American horror movies. A bunch of over-the-top theatrics belie awkwardly written scenes, and the soundtrack is pathetic.

If those kids had only known that skin-tight tube tops and hip-hugging hot pants constrict blood vessels, preventing adequate blood flow to the heart, and ultimately leading to fatigue, they might have chosen outfits a tad more loose. Then, maybe they would not have grown winded every 30 seconds, allowing Chuck Connors to catch up with them each time they escaped from the house.

Weird, haunting variation on _Carrie_ and _The Texas Chainsaw Massacre_. This is almost totally senseless and confusing, but it has an air of almost surreal beauty in some of its scenes and is graced by one of Pino Donaggio's loveliest scores.

Bad acting all around, and some weird mashup of ideas, but I guess I give it many bonus points for being this unhinged. I could see a kid having nightmare about the mannequins so good job on that.

Has the look and feel of a Texas Chainsaw Massacre rip-off, not least due to the similar look of our antagonist; and given that it's Charles Band-produced, maybe that was exactly what was intended. It does, however, throw in a dash of the supernatural and a gimmick involving "life-like" mannequins, conjuring up associations with Carrie and House of Wax. For all that's derivative, it does occasionally shine with some sufficiently creepy visuals and well-staged kills.

OK horror but very strange seeing Chuck Connors (The Rifleman) in this type of role. Guess he needed a paycheck.

An oddity of 70's horror, it features some genuinely solid performances, particularly from Connors, & has a number of good ideas running through it. However, it also borrows way too much way too blatantly, taking from the likes of TCM, Carrie, & Psycho in a way that's too blunt to not be intentional. What makes it stand out is the sheer weirdness of it, but beyond that it's a poorly paced, poorly written mess that isn't as good as it could've been. Worth a look if you like bizarre, though.

Not so bad it's good; just bad. What was Chuck Connors doing in this? Stupid and boring. A few extra points for inventive special effects, creepy mannequins & wasted acting.

Ok I'm a jaded-as-hell horror fan but this scared the living shit out of me. After the bizarre opening death sequence, its a VERY dull slug through the first forty minutes but once it gets going its turns into one of the surreal and frightening 'slashers' you'll ever see. Chuck Connors gives an Oscar-worthy performance, what a nutbag! It did make me miss internet queen Shaye St John though (RIP baby girl).

Weird and at times overtly familier script, sub-par acting and strange direction combine to fly in the face of logic and actually deliver a fine, festive, almost-as-fun-as-watching-infants-drown moviewatching experience for the not so discerning audience. Also, Tanya Roberts back then was highly stalkable.

Surprisingly effective horror movie, released in the brief period between Halloween's success and the slasher glut that began in 1980. As that's the case, it defies easy categorization. It's a slasher film, in many ways- though only as bloody as Halloween and Texas Chain Saw Massacre- but also incorporates supernatural elements. Felt a lot like TCM, though I can't quite pinpoint how. The killer's costume, voice, mannerisms, and methods combined to create a spooky villain.

I'm all for some good ham, but Chuck is flat out miscast in this. Something about it just comes off as pure play acting to me. Not a genuine moment. It has its moments, but I am baffled at its fanbase.

Such a preeeeeety girl. The first scene was memorable enough for me to have seen it once when I was about 7, setting about a 20-year quest to track down what movie said scene was from. Well, I finally did, and...it's unspeakably bad.

The film has a strange aura of good and bad; some scenes are well made while others are pretty lazy; the whole "twist" is almost wasted and the supernatural elements weren't really needed. Still, it's probably that mix of ingredients that resonates and lingers in your memory until the next time. Donaggio's score works well too.
