Torn Hearts

I really wanted to enjoy this because I do, genuinely, like country music & don't understand why it gets so much hate from so much of the general populus. I think it has something to do with the actual meaning of country music being lost in the ties to racism and Southern stereotypes, though. Anyway, this has an almost entirely female cast and solid direction but the writing is so not great that it really waters down all of the other elements. Like, the script is real bad. Impressively bad.

Love to see Katey Sagal in this kind of role. And I like the idea of the music business as a haunted house. But there's... I dunno if it's the limited setting, or Quinn and Lemire not quite having the weight to carry the entire movie just on their two-person conflict, or if it's the script failing to develop it, but what should be a great slow-build just starts to run on empty a bit before it hits the finale. But Brea Grant continues to be an interesting director.
