Topaze

Decent early 30s comedy. Funny at times, though not quite there with the comedic timing. Nice playful narrative, but could use a little fleshing out.

A little light on the comedy. Nevertheless a delightful life lesson. John Barrymore probable had a lot of fun finding the mannerisms for his subject and it's interesting to see him being someone completely different from his usual scene sucking characters. Here he still sucks you in, but with a minimal style and it's a credit to his talent as an actor. Topaze is a fairly predictable story, but done in a fine sarcastic manner without preaching and it works.

A charming, gentle comedy with a subdued Barrymore and a beautiful young Myrna Loy.
