Val Kilmer would go on to become three Doc Hollidays. "I'm your huckleberry...and your blueberry, and elderberry, and raspberry, and strawberry, and boysenberry, and bilberry, and dewberry, and cranberry, and gooseberry, and jostaberry, and loganberry, and marionberry, and olallieberry, and youngberry. There's a fine amount of entertainment to be had from watching Russell and company's moustaches dispense hirstute justice. The villains are villainous and comeuppences juicy. Kilmer has a blast as Doc Holliday, stealing every scene he's in. I suspect that this isn't historically accurate, it's a bit daft, and it drags a bit in places, but is definitely worth a look.

A bunch of Very Manly Men that are a little wasted on a bland script. Seeing a perma-sweaty Kilmer ham it up is glorious, but the plot is never exciting or refreshing. It's just so... so... *nineties* that it feels like a Western variation of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.

This was the anti-Unforgiven. The mythos of the Wild West are in full swing with big name stars. Elliott gave the best performance, Russell was fine, and Kilmer was like Johnny Depp. The romance seemed unnecessary and I even found troublingly myself tuning out whenever a woman was speaking, usually in self-righteous indignation. That's how macho manly this movie was. Powerful music. Drawn out ending after OK Corral. Fav scenes: shootout at OK Corral; fiery background; Elliott kicking ass.

This movie is, simply put, "bad ass." The acting is bad ass, the cast is bad ass, the dialog is bad ass, the story is bad ass, historical accuracy is set aside if it means this film can be more bad ass. I suppose this could be bad if you're not into that sort of thing but if you are then this is essential viewing. If you're not a huge western fan then this is one to see to get you eased into the genre. Definitely worth seeing.

A really fun if occasionally a hair over the top Western, full of violence, oozing with testosterone, and featuring an impressive who's-who array of many of the most masculine of masculine actors from the last two decades, from then-living legends to stars of the 80s and 90s to current stars who then featured in minor roles. Val Kilmer arguably towers over them all and delivers a wicked entertaining performance as Doc Holliday.

Does it help that I was named after Wyatt Earp? Yes it does. Val Kilmer could have walked away from film a legend after this one. Now he'll have to settle for waddling away a legend.

Kilmer is the reason to see this film. I'm not a big fan of Russell as Wyatt. Michael Biehn is strong as Johnny Ringo. The film can be a bit cheesy and drags in places. Works best as an action movie. The romance tends to be a little flat. Overall a good movie but could have been better.

A 90's star driven vehicle set in the west 'just because'. It features characters based on real people, but Russell's Earp may as well be called Billy Bob Joe because this film has nothing to do with the real Earp or Doc, nor is it an act of creative historical mythologisation like My Darling Clementine. It's a rote pop western saddled with a mediocre script featuring an inexplicably long first act that goes absolutely nowhere. The moustaches act well, but it's ultimately unremarkable.

Splashy and entertaining western is a high spirited call back to vintage entries of the genre (with at least a couple of stalwarts around in cameos), flecked with some "modern" brutality and performances; Russell is fine as the square-jawed Earp but Kilmer steals it as a supremely eccentric Doc Holliday. Certainly not a thoughtful or insightful experience, but a lot of fun and impressively staged and mounted by credited director Cosmatos.

It's hard to believe that everything in the movie has acutally happened. I put a bit of research into it, and to my surprise it seems to me that this is indeed the true story of Wyatt Earp's life. It's daunting to even consider that the atmosphere depicted in the first half of the movie was the actual life of the people in the period. The second part is somewhat weaker. There are a lot of parts where people are merely shooting at each other in long scenes, but overall it's still a solid movie.

I liked this when it was first released, being young and into gunfighters. I feel more discerning now and was prepared for fun cheese when I re-watched it. But I found it to be a very good film and a reasonably accurate adaptation of the Earp story. Add in Val Kilmer as Doc and you have a winner.

This was one of the 5 or so VHS tapes of adult movies that my family owned when I was a kid. As such I love it, maybe even a little more than it deserves. Kilmer is at his best as Doc Holliday. Russell is fun as are most of the cowboys. This is maybe the most quotable Western I've ever seen. Just writing this review makes me want to go watch it again.

Visually its up there with the best of them, and initially it does take a refreshing approach to the laws and lawgivers of the west. This is all but pretty much forgotten by the third act though, with a overly extended hunt for some bad guys the film failed to establish in the first place. Kilmer as Holliday is the star of the show, with Russell (and Cosmatos) never letting us properly inside the head of Earp.

Totally feels like it's playing dress-up, but when everybody is having this much fun, who cares? Killer cast, lush cinematography, fantastic production design, and Val Kilmer stealing the show at every turn (if you made a top ten list of lines of dialogue from this film, he'd have delivered every single one).

Although this movie isn't the smoothest ride, wobbling a bit in the saddle when it comes to a coherent structure or comfortable pool of characters, it is still a lot of fun and highly entertaining. Aside from Val Kilmer's brilliant performance, it's the Earp's mustaches that do the most work in this film. And my do those mustaches work... mmmm.

Take Kilmer out of this and, plane and simple, it isn't good. Okay, maybe not that far, but most of Tombstone is almost a good film, but a little too contrived and silly. Seriously, I wish this film was amazing, but it isn't. Better than Wyatt Earp, but nothing special.

Somewhat comedic, overacted and "too hollywood", tombstone fails to deliver the true Wild West spirit (see Deadwood series for that.) Nevertheless ensemble cast and some nice action redeems the movie, while Val "I'm your huckleberry" Kilmer plays the best role in his acting career and steal every scene he's in. Not a classic but worth watching.

If I was asked to accurately describe Tombstone in one word, it would surely be "badass". Everything about it is badass. The acting, the action, the moustaches, the dialogue. The Old West is authentically recreated and this epic Western does have a lot of great moments, although some of those are sandwiched between over-the-top melodrama that doesn't age well today. Specifically, Kilmer's performance as the charming, but deadly Doc Holliday steals every scene and there are some memorable one-liners. It's also fun seeing early supporting roles from some memorable faces. It's definitely a very Hollywood version of Earp's life, but far from the worst Western.

The first half is slow and the second half is choppy and it's apparent that there was some kind of production trouble. Imagine my lack of surprise to see that writer/director Kevin Jarre was fired a month into filming, only to then be replaced by George P. Cosmatos (disgruntling some of the crew). Add to that Kurt Russel reportedly tearing out subplots from the script mid-filming, and it becomes clear why something feels a bit "off" with Tombstone's narrative.

Damn, this is one solid western. The cast is stellar and the story is carried in a solid manner. While some of the romance stuff was a bit boring to me, it was still necessary to explain where they ended up later. It was important to focus more on the friendship between Wyatt and Doc and I really think this is maybe Val Kilmers' best role ever. It's just cool and entertaining. Love this movie to bits.
