coincidentally, my score aligns perfectly with the IQ you need to enjoy this piece of shit. whoever finds a redeeming quality here, other than "alicia vikander is good looking" or "the movie ends at some point" clearly should consider joining roar uthaug and his magnificent crew...in a shuttle headed to outer space.

I thought this was perfectly fine. You aren't going to pick it over Indiana Jones, but it has some good action sequences and adventure. Alicia Vikander is always good, so she deserves some praise for this I think. Good acting and directing for what turns out to be an origin story (that isn't too bad) for a possible sequel that probably won't be as good. Nonetheless, this was entertaining throughout and a fun time at the movies.

As a fan of the games, this is terrible. Takes 35 minutes to get to the island after a stupid intro--bike chase scene, kickboxing scene and I-desperately-need-money-but-won't-sign-a-form-that-gives-me-it scene. On island, awful cgi action fan service, botched rescue, and a very poor man's Indiana Jones. Worst part is that this dreadful story has the GALL to set itself up for a sequel. When Goggins said, "I'm running out of floor," he actually became the only likable character.

They should've just called this Hang-On: The Movie as that's pretty much all Lara does is hang on to stuff. I seem to be in the minority here but I thought that Alicia Vikander was terrible as Lara. She's not a terrible actress but this was not the role for her. This movie made me roll my eyes so much I got a migraine...

By taking Lara Croft and making her an amateur at everything from fighting, to the lore and adventuring that was a tenet of the the Tomb Raider games, they've added a degree of realism to the story. But Tomb Raider was never made to be completely believable, and there's a touch of fantasy here, not unlike a poor man's Indiana Jones. It's still a relatively fun popcorn flick, and Vikander was completely competent, but I can't help but feel that she ought to gain weight if she's going to continue.

Even though Vikander is fit as a fiddle, those of us who were teenagers when the original Lara Croft game came out are doomed to feel cheated in a certain department. And I'm not talking about the rather awful script (which, fittingly, plays second fiddle).

I'll confess I was drawn in by the hype of this being a Tomb Raider with more than two talents. But as I watch two hours of a very fit Alicia Vikander running, biking, jumping, skydiving and plummeting away from things, I'm starting to wonder if the basic problem isn't the bust size but that the whole Tomb Raider plot is kind of shit to begin with. Vikander, Goggins and West do what they can with the script, but it remains one very long voyeuristic cutscene.

Very loosely based on the videogame reboot of the franchise, this throws out almost everything that made the reboot a success. Hollywood still has this weird idea that people who watch movies and people who play games are two entirely different audiences, so everything here is just a dumbed-down sanitized version of the game. The movie's worst sin, however, is turning Lara from a headstrong independent adventurer into a punky teen with daddy issues that drag the whole film down.

Tomb Raider might, by default, be one of the best video game adaptations we've seen. That's due primarily to weak competition, though. It's easily better than the two other Lara Croft movies, since it's a competent action movie with a solid enough emotional hook and some decent puzzles. It lacks some thrills, tacks on a dumb twist at the end, and doesn't develop many of its supporting cast, which is filled with a lot of great actors. Still, it's mostly a success, and it's a decent amount of fun.

Tomb Raider is one of the most average films in recent memory. But it's fair to say that this is a much improved reboot and one of few good video game adaptions. Alicia Vikander is well cast, convincing in the role and she elevates the experience. And the set pieces are enjoyable throughout and they playout like levels and challenges from a video game. The runtime is too long and the pacing issues create unengaging spells. But overall Tomb Raider is harmless fun and sequels are bound to follow.

It's so perfectly average that it's hard to really complain. I'd say that the acting definitely saves it as Vikander is pretty cool. That being said, the dialogue is fairly atrocious so if not for her and some cool puzzle scenes it might be a much cheesier watch. Still had some fun with it, despite a lot of shortcomings.

You might be able to make this statement more than I'm giving it credit for, but I legitimately can't think of another working actress I would rather see portray this version of the Lara Croft character, than Alicia Vikander. It's not her most challenging dramatic performance but she definitely puts in work, especially in the physical sense. Insulated by a good cast and featuring more than enough story-wise to keep me in it, I have virtually no complaints, even if it didn't jump off the screen.

Vikander takes on the role of Lara from the recent reboot rather than the one with the big boobs. Sadly cleavage is not the only thing lacking here as a reasonable opening devolves into far fetched and clichéd plot points which combine to lose the viewer's interest. An endurance trial. This franchise was never about believability (who remembers those 16-bit polygon breasts, amiright?), but as Lara's template Indy once said, "it's not the age, baby, it's the mileage" - so after Lara gets so many beatdown sessions, even this vehicle begs for a tuneup. Vikander does a phenomenal job, though, and gets the film through its non-action beats, which are directed with unsurprising apathy.

Actually not that terrible. It's a generic action flick, sure, but it's not boring. I didn't really like this cocky version of Lara Croft, I much prefer the confident, but not arrogant, Lara Croft in the older Tomb Raider games or the more insecure -finding herself- version in the latest video game reboots. I think Camilla Luddington would have been a better choice to have been cast as Lara. The script could use a rewrite to fix most problems with this film, but as I mentioned, it was okay.

It's a simple adventure, the type of story you might see on a direct-to-video ten or twenty years ago, done on a big budget with occasional big setpieces that give about 3 seconds of satisfying punch each. By my watch that's 15 really cool seconds in two hours. Hmm. But it's not inherently broken or insipidly bad or downright offensively reeking. So whatever. You wanna watch it, go ahead. I don't regret seeing it at least

It doesn't really do anything new with the genre, but I think it was purposefully trying to be quite old-fashioned. Definitely less fantastical than Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001), which is kind of good, but also makes the supernatural elements really stick out. Vikander was pretty good, but the rest of the cast didn't impress me here. The actions scenes were pretty cool, I thought. Nothing special, and I understand the lukewarm reception, but I'd be willing to see a sequel.

Tomb Raider's biggest issues aren't that damning to say the least. Vikander's Lara Croft is perhaps the best part of the movie, as she given a more grounded Lara, a Lara that doesn't quite know who she is yet, and does grow sigifiicantly throughout the movie. However, almost everything else felt average at best. Between a weak antagonist, meh supporting characters, and somewhat half baked script, Tomb Raider could be in a much worse position, it set the foundation for good game projects.

Apart from the typical weird Blockbuster pacing that goes from the set up directly to the finale without any middle part, this movie is a good time at the movies. Alicia Vikander is great as Lara and the setpieces that were taken directly from the game were placed well into the movie. Fun times!

A fun first act (see the bike race, tomb discovery) sets things up well, with Vikander's cheeky Lara proving to be a likeable lead, as well as a refreshingly down-to-earth action star in the next two acts, which have their share of good, gritty action sequences (see the plane escape; mud fight) but fail to generate any sort of real adventure momentum as a whole due to continual script slip-ups: the confusing island enslavement, the unremarkable early mystery resolve, the mediocre tomb raid.

There are plenty of elements within this film that could have gone somewhere, but the film was unfocused and lacked direction. There was action, but nothing breathtaking. There was backstory, but nothing compelling. There was tomb raiding, but it was neither edge-of-your-seat or particularly fun. There was also a predictable plot, empty supporting characters, and a bland villain. With its budget and star, this film really could have been something remarkable—but alas, it really wasn't.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, though I think it got a little weaker when they were actually raiding the tomb, oddly enough. Vikander was great, putting in a physical performance but having some good emotional depth and charm. Some of the action, specifically in the first half or so reminded me of Die Hard (no, not as good) in the sense that it was someone out of their element and it was gritty. I liked that she actually had pause when she first murdered someone. This was fun.

Enjoyable adventure yarn with some explicit tips of the hat to INDIANA JONES, with Vikander a likable and believable heroine; some rote plotting and somewhat tiresome (though nowadays ineveitable) attempts at franchise building detract, but can't bring down the fun; scores points for giving Croft some added weight and authenticity by showing the impact (physically and psychologically) that the carnage is having.

This incarnation of Tomb Raider lifts plot elements, designs (the campfire was eerily familiar) and its reboot spirit from the game reboot, but forgets the substance along the way. The screenplay is mediocre and strung together with clichés. The film picks up with the introduction of the under-utilised Daniel Wu, but even with its adrenaline-fuelled pace, never becomes engaging. This is an action film at heart, at the expense of tomb-raiding adventure. Mediocre and forgettable.

In my book, "Tomb Raider" fails as an action/adventure movie; miss the mark with the story telling; fails the mystery; the Himiko plot line was really poorly executed and Alicia Vikander (although likeable) felt like a miscast. The only thing that the movie does well unfortunately, is setup for a sequel. Oh, well, Nick Frost is in the mix, and he is always a delight to watch. Bottom line, this is good for a movie from 2002, but not 2018. As someone said - this is poor man's Indiana Jones.

Had the movie managed to maintain the energy and connection with the audience that it introduces in the first act, it would have been good. It's a good enough reboot of the franchise, it's not particularly bad but it really doesn't leave much of an impact. Alicia Vikander is great and brings a lot to the role, but the plot stumbles out of the gates a little bit and only really gets exciting when it goes into "Indiana Jones" mode. TOMB RAIDER is a serviceable action-adventure that lacks any big, glaring flaws, and instead suffers from a surfeit of mediocrity. This is a movie that is afraid to make choices for fear of making the wrong one. It's hard to tell sometimes whether Vikander is determined or uptight, though she does a wonderful job of incorporating any such discomfort into her character as the tone floats from bright and intrepid to brutal and eerie.

There's very little to knock in this effort: good performances by Vikander and Goggins (West again feels a tad out of place), passable story, appropriate pace, and unexpectedly one of the most faithful game-to-film adaptations ever made. Even still, it's throwaway stuff you won't remember much of a day or two after your viewing. It's a likable franchise starter and Vikander is much more engaging as a leading actress than Jolie ever was in the role. West and Goggins offer up important supporting roles in this big time action movie. Most of the action scenes looked cool and made you believe in the supernatural aspect of it all. The only hindrance is that it seems to follow the formula of most origin stories. It doesn't do much to defy conventional genre tropes. Hopefully a sequel will do a better job of that aspect.

Alicia Vikander does a good job of embodying the Lara Croft from the rebooted game series. The movie does a good job of depicting the world of the game. The plot feels like a streamlined plot fro one of these games. The problem is that video game plots tend to rely on the interactivity of a game to bolster deliberately sketchy and weak plots. This movie is ... fine. Unexciting, but fine. I would like to see what they could do with this character and a better plot.

Her take on Lara the character is seemingly the only thing in the film that had any real thought put into it.
