Tom and Jerry

Your jumping off point has to be that you singularly hate the cat and want to see him suffer. None of the characters are developed enough to root for or to root against, which seems to be the film's main objective because almost every character is punished simply for being around our cartoon duo. There's a scene where the cat sits at a piano and sings a ballad which is entirely in autotune. I don't have the words. My son enjoyed it which dropped my score even lower.

While this modern big budget reimagining of "Tom & Jerry" avoided the mistake of bastardizing beloved cartoon characters by giving them a shiny new coat of CG paint, this movie, however, isn't really any better off for it. The titular characters here seem more like a sidenote or a macguffin to move the boring plot forward about a young girl trying to weasel her way into a job she wasn't really qualified for. It got no sympathetic nostalgia points from me, and it was a real bore.

Somehow this reminded me of one of the later Hellraiser sequels, wherein Pinhead seemed to be shoehorned into whatever random script the studio had laying around, only here Tom & Jerry are shoehorned into a feature length commercial for some fancy New York hotel. My youngest son enjoyed it but Jesus wept.

I love Tom & Jerry but they're fine in short bursts and can't carry a feature-length runtime. Chloe Grace Moretz is a good actor but she's still stuck with kid roles. Michael Pena as a foil doesn't work if he's trying to get in sidekick jokes. Rob Delaney's too distracting. The wedding story is dumb. But worst of all, the film's not funny. The animation is beautiful. The hip-hop music doesn't seem to fit. Fav scene: Tom trying to enter the hotel via outside wires.

cat vs mouse, rich vs poor, women vs men, young vs old, white girl + black guy, white guy + hindu girl, hispanic guy + white woman, live action + animation, orange + teal, what an exhausting + boring mess.

I wanted to give this new Tom & Jerry movie a chance. The good things going for this film is the quality of the Animation. I was very impressed with Tom, Jerry, and the other animals. Thank God they didn't make Tom and Jerry speak. Some of the Cat and Mouse chase hijinks is fairly entertaining, Now for the bad. When it doesn't focus on Tom and Jerry, the Human characters are kind of bad and have rubbish jokes for the most part. It doesn't help the acting is wonky. I wish it wasn't poor.

I was hoping for a better movie. It felt good to see Tom and Jerry again but story is very slow and doesn't offer you any interesting subject. The action and cartoon are fine but the emotion transition between the characters is almost nonexistent.

The nostalgia kicked in and it was nice seeing Tom and Jerry, some of the jokes actually landed and Mortez was really trying here to bring this material to life. Good animation as well. On the opposite end, the obsession with rap and going back to the same well with the rap was annoying and a lot of jokes didn't work. The plot was basic. I wanted to give this a pass but I can't bring myself to do it; I also can't bring myself to say I outright hated it.

Pretty bad. Not sure why they made it in the first place. And was that t-pain?

Oh no oh no oh no why why why why why this shouldn't exist and if it does how was this even allowed to be released in a year largely without theaters.

Tom and Jerry? I think the title of this movie should have been Kayla- and it's not what people signed up for. It's not awful- has some gags that work, some that don't, the animation doesn't mesh well, and the whole thing tries to take on a modern flavor it doesn't need. But I don't think I hated it as much as some seem to.

The animation is stupidly awesome, but everything else about this movie is just downright more awful than the infamous 90s movie.

Boring human characters, a lack of sufficient T&J action, and a poor attempt to upgrade the IP for the 'hip-hop generation'. Score is probably generous.

It's not like I expected this to be good. But they make such a fundamental error that there was no rescuing the film: They made Jerry the bad guy. Any true fan of T&J knows Jerry was (almost) always the innocent being victimized by Tom's instincts or duty to catch mice. Here Jerry is a complete ass and causes all the mayhem. There's the occasional shout-out that's funny, but wow, it's all ruined by writers who don't know their source material. Plus, the hip-hop music didn't fit at all.

Tom and Jerry deserve a much better movie than this. And why is it that the interactions between people and toons looked so much more convincing in 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit'?

I chuckled a lot in this film, NOT because it was funny and enjoyable, but because of how horrible the acting and dialogue is in the human parts. It just feels fake and artificial. The only not-that-bad parts/moments on this film are some of the Tom and Jerry parts, and it at least had a pretty satisfying ending for a movie that was gringing my gears. Overall, it's just very bad.

I was trying my best to enjoy this cartoony live-action adaptation of Tom and Jerry (2021), but they were making the surroundings and cameos too contemporary to make the inclusion of Tom & Jerry feel genuine. Chloë Grace Moretz is cute in her role, but the stars of the show take a backseat to her screen time. I was here for the cat, and to a lesser degree that annoying mouse, but they gave most of the good parts in the script to the caricatured humans and that's not why I tuned in.

I liked the singing pigeons.

Typical animation that is made with the minimum amount of effort to get a result that is just sufficient enough to draw kids to the cinema to earn its money back.

Nothing about this worked for me, despite being a big fan of the old cartoons. It's a lot of Moretz acting solo in silence trying desperately to bring life to the scenes, as neither Tom nor Jerry speak, yet still 'communicate' with her through a form of charades. I also think it's strange to bring Peña in but have him essentially not doing anything comedic, and have him be pretty dis-likeable overall. The animation is probably the one positive in the film.

There is nothing here but surface level performances and some good animation. If it was not called Tom and Jerry nothing makes it uniquely a film about them and nothing is magical about them in this film regardless. The talents of Pena and Moretz are wasted on a cringy script and an even cringier setting within a hotel. Nothing about this film is a stand out and that is shameful given Tom and Jerry are recognized names for many.
