Paramount tries their luck on one of the Tom Sawyer stories with Billy Cook as the title character, and even more effective Donald O'Connor as Huckleberry Finn. The biggest criticism is that it took a while before things started coming together. But once the crime had been established and the two start butting in it got good. Especially when the two try a jail break and go corpse hunting. So a pleasant youth mystery.
