Bogart is Bogart. The rest of the cast disappoints.

This stuff is good. Bogart is good, the locations are good.

The backdrop of a American crook in Japan post-WWII did make for a difficult dynamic, even if that guy was played by the great Humphrey Bogart. At the same time I found that aspect intriguing as it was the first time an American film company shot parts of its film in the ruins of Japan. Alexander Knox plays a straight character missing a darker edge, but I guess this needed stable good guy considering the ending. While a mess of a story, I found a lot that I did like during this journey.

Good drama but not quite what I expected. I won't go back and watch again, put it that way.

Almost laughably bad, not helped by woefully dated ethnic references (note the change in music score at the end of the credits to establish we are in Tokyo). Bogart seems stiff and uncomfortable here (especially during his stunt double's karate confrontation early on) and Marly's unnecessarily complicated back story (and her relationship to Bogart and Knox) doesn't help matters. One of Bogie's few duds.

This movie is so bad it's laughable. Bogart plays a character we have seen before, even think he uses some exact the same lines.

Worth a watch for Bogie completionists or post-WW2 Japan fanatics.

OK, so hear me out. This is kind of a cut-up and pasted together Casablanca. Occupied city. Bogart runs a gin joint. There's a woman from his past, and the man who now is her husband. But the occupiers are the Americans, not the Vichy French, and the woman doesn't really love him any more. "What are you looking at, baby?" "You."

Pretty flat. Still, it has Bogie and he's always fun to watch.
