I was expecting it to be good, but it's great. Tons of great characters, each with their own fully realized character arc; excellent acting, including the children; great style, with handheld camera and great use of jump cuts giving a really neat documentary feel; some extremely emotional moments, both sad and happy, showing both the strengths and the weaknesses of the characters' lifestyles; it's all great. The end might be a bit too nice and tidy.

Too dramatized and too self-conscious to really be believable.

A film about the importance of family, both genetic and the chosen kind, it shows the evolution of love and bondingness and the free spiritedness of the hippie culture in the '70s. A true charmer and full of feel-good spirit.

This is probably the most convincing period movie I've ever seen. About half a dozen times I caught myself completely forgetting that this movie wasn't made in the 1970s. Every character's little arc is pretty interesting, but I liked the young girl's the best. There's no dull ones though. The movie is surprisingly funny, too. It works. While the film feels uniquely Swedish, there are people like that all over the world. It translates easily.

Big disappointment, since I loved "Show Me Love" so much. Together's treatment of a hippie commune is humdrum and predictable. Lesbian, gay guy, children (boy and girl) negatively affected by the "free love" ideology around them, the requisite political terms thrown around but always superficially, all the "warts" the film was expected to put on its subject matter but nothing the least bit daring or challenging. There are bits of soapy drama but all the conflicts have quick fixes.

I think the message was that washing the dishes is bad.

Bem-Vindos estreava há 20 anos na Suécia. Sátira bem divertida, mas é verdadeiramente aterrorizante saber que esse mesmo diretor faria Lilya Forever como filme seguinte. DVDRip no MakingOff.

Lukas Moodysson is a masterful storyteller who manages to write characters and dialogue so realistic that it's almost like watching a documentary, and with this period piece from a free love collective in the 1970's he shows that he excels even outside the contemporary setting.

Some of the character beats rang false for me (most of the gay stuff made me cringe) and spending an hour and a half with a bunch of dirty hippies is not my idea of a good time. But the film itself is enjoyably messy and the main relationships are subtle and genuine (the children in particular).

Been a while since I've watched it in its entirety, but I still revisit what I would consider one of the most uplifting cinematic endings.

Nicely shot kitchen sinker, the 'tyranny of small differences' breaking apart a group. An rose-tinted look at why communes didn't change the world.

A touching Scandinavian drama about a commune, those who must leave and those who need it to survive. Each character is their own person, both weak and strong. Highly recommended.

"Lukas Moodysson's hysterical, timeless piece of hippie lore looks for that happy gray area between capitalism and Marxism." - Ed Gonzalez

One of my favourite feel-good films. It walks just the right line between parody and affection for its hippie characters. The child actors in this are particularly great.

great film! it's very balanced and non-judgmental between the traditional lifestyle and the alternative, communal one. it was very human.

Using a wide array of characters Moodysson explores the dysfunctions of all sorts of relationships. It's quite amazing how he was able to tie all these different stories together into a tight film with realized personalities and for the most part avoid preaching a solution.
