How can it be this boring

Rewatched September 2017. Had this on a favorite tape as a tiny tot. I wanted to see a better quality version of this and I got it, thanks to Thunderbean. Some of the nostalgic glow is gone seeing it so pristinely, and the colors don't seem quite as bright as I remember. The humble, even ugly brown gnomes make, frankly, a gaudy spring, and there's the feeling they're making it because they simply must, not necessarily for humans' enjoyment, or their own well-being.
