As a fan familiar with most of her work, Barbara Stanwyck is extraordinary in this. If her only scene were the one with Robert Wagner where she reads the Housman poem, it would be her movie. Yet Clifton Webb (as her prig-husband) gets first billing...perhaps it's because he never shuts up. The whole cast does good work--I suspect because of Negulesco--especially Richard Basehart, Wagner, and Thelma Ritter. There's more magic in 5 minutes of this than the whole god-awful 1997 flick.

Stanwyck's sparkling ability to hold a dialogue made this film worth watching.

Dreary. Clifton Webb and Barbara Stanwyck aren't credible even as an estranged couple, and Thelma Ritter is wasted.

It wasn't really bad in any way, but it gave me a feeling that it wasn't going anywhere, and that's a bad thing when the largest cruise ship in the world is sinking.
