What a disappointment when I realized Kevin Costner wasn't being coerced by James Earl Jones into building a golf course.

Kevin Costner sports movies are made for Super Bowl Halftime Show fans. Understanding or even enjoying sports plays no part of the equation. Trying to write a better review than Spleen's is fruitless. I think I sank all twelve shots in the water.

There's a strain of moralism increasingly common in "criticism" that would see this film condemned for its romantic subplot because Russo's character is ostensibly Costner's psychiatrist (or because Costner is ostensibly Russo's golf teacher). These are the same people who write Vox thinkpieces on how "FRIENDS sold us lies about friendship", as if anyone who "bought" anything from a goddamned sitcom doesn't deserve to have all their screens eaten by Fatt LeBlanc. I don't have many friends left.

This is the best work that Costner, Russo, Johnson, and Cheech have ever done. Roy's meltdown on the 72nd hole came out of nowhere and was one of the most painful movie moments I've ever seen upon first viewing. And I'm so glad they avoided the predictable and cliched ending it could have had because of it! You get the feeling that Costner isn't even acting, that this is what his personality actually is in real life.

Rambling character portrait might be Shelton’s most benign effort to date, especially as showcasing one of Costner’s likable, less cocky performances from his "hunk" period (WATERWORLD has brought him down a peg, but he wouldn’t be truly humbled till next year’s THE POSTMAN!) Lacks an edge that would make the sprawl out towards 2½ hours justifiable, with these characters and their predictable exploits not warranting the epic treatment. Nice bit of straight work from Marin in support.

"Tin Cup" is considered the pinnacle of sports films and possibly the best golf movie ever. It stands out for its understanding of the human aspect of sports, with multidimensional characters and a focus on the true meaning of winning and losing. The cast's chemistry adds to its charm, but the film has flaws, such as sluggish pacing and predictable storylines. Some viewers may dislike the exploration of darker human aspects rather than feel-good moments typically associated with the genre.

Seen: 2. Something about these contrived characters just rubs me the wrong way, in what otherwise should be a light, enjoyable move.

We all hope for films that don't use the standard Hollywood formula for a trite happy ending. Well, here's one that goes way out of its way to avoid the happy ending. However, what it does is steer itself into a tree in the process.

Not your typical sports film; much better than expected. The four lead characters have such amazing chemistry that is rare even in serious films, let alone comedies. Costner doesn't even seem like he is acting, his performance is that genuine. Best I've ever seen from him, and also the by far the best I've ever seen from Rene Russo and Cheech Marin. Even the bit players' performances, such as the driving range crew, seem so real. Easily my favourite golf movie.

It's an ok movie, had a lot of funny parts. Although, the character of Tin Cup seemed a little too cocky at times for my taste. The ending gave me goosebumps while pissing me off at the same Time.

Boring golf movie. Then again, it's about golf... whatya expect.Costner didn't even get on the green with this one.Once again, Russo plays a love interest.Fancy that.Would have been more entertaining if Tiger Wood's wife came in for a quick cameo to smack Costner over the head with a golf club for this annoying piece of crap. What was Costner smoking? Most likely one of Cheech Marin's reefers.

While there is some chemistry between Russo and Costner, it's not enough to salvage this movie. This is not the Bull Durham of golf, and that's the worst problem. Don Johnson does a fair job. Catch once, on TV, if there's nothing else on, like an infomercial.
