Timothy's Quest

Stories about orphans were always gold in the silent era. This is one's called Timothy's Quest (1922), a novel written by Kate Douglas Wiggin (of Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm fame), and it's another winner full of personality. I'm surprised the movie isn't better known. It's the group of old folks that steals the show. They are the ones that dictate the mood changes and bring the heart as these kids come into their lonely lives. The best job I've seen director Sidney Olcott do.

Not bad but could have been much shorter. The previous lover seemed unnecessary to the story. I thought the young lady in the slums who told the kids about the vision board would have a bigger role. I lost interest as the film went along, but it was quite captivating at the beginning. Overly reliant on intertitles instead of acting. Fav scene: shoeing a bull.
