The last Michael Shayne feature from Twentieth Century Fox and Lloyd Nolan before the franchise went poverty row with another actor after the war. Time to Kill (1942) might be the simplest of the bunch Nolan did, but it's no less entertaining. As it's his 7th time as the detective, Nolan is comfortable to play around with his character and he deals with danger in a most comic fashion. While only a light case, he really makes the most of it.
