Utterly ridiculous, largely incomprehensible, and really fun. But too long.

Great first 3 quarters, disappointing end. Still, the good bits are very good...

I have no clue what's going on.

hark tsui shows once again that he can make a simple plot seem convoluted. however, he remains an interesting director and this was easier to follow than some of his other efforts (ahem seven swords) and the last hour is straight-up action done well.

Some awesome spectacles when it's a fight scene, otherwise it's confusing and boring. Just watch the fight scenes, the brilliant fantastic fight scenes, and skip the crap in between

It loses itself in a few places, and the narrative gets really absurd as it goes on, but the action scenes are pretty terrific and the style makes up for narrative shortcomings.

In the first half of this I constantly went from this is shit to this is The Shit. The first because Hark is able to make what is a very simple plot almost impossible to follow. The later cause meanwhile Hark constantly did astonish with inventive ways to shoot action. In the second half the plot becomes way clearer with a simple divide of parties. This non-stop action filled second half is so full of inventive, greatly shot action sequence in the end this definitely was more the Shit than shit.
