Tillie Wakes Up

The final Tillie film - Tillie Wakes Up (1917). And it's a wake-up call that it's time to end the series. Much like most 3rd sequels running out of ideas, and they basically end up with the old Coney Island concept which so many comedies went for in those days. Dressler is quality, the only thing here, but she doesn't really have anything to work with so this extended slapstick comedy falls pretty flat.

Complete garbage. Tillie's punctured romance wasn't very good either but it at least had things that could pass for comedy, however dated they may be. This is an unending exercise in tedium, I don't even know how or to whom most of this would be even remotely funny. I guess a few things in the second half could be considered comedy if you look at them just so, but even that part has long uninteresting intertitles about characters I couldn't care less about.
