Very dark comedy but certainly a comedy if you really get what they were going for here. Ebert said the film is racist but I don't think it is so much as the characters who are "racist" simply hate everyone. To be fair there are some scenes that are hard to watch by how graphic and immoral they are but if you can make it through then it's a pretty good flick.

A Tarantino-esque gem; much maligned by critics, but loved by me!

90s as fuck. The camera tricks, the switching to black and white, the dialogue, the music, the acting. Another Tarantino knock-off that doesn't impress me much - it's a comedy that's not funny and a thriller that's not thrilling, who knows why so many people here love it

A reminder that you couldn’t swing a cat in the late 90s without connecting with a funky, hip “post-Tarantino” crime drama – unfortunately this one of the more ugly, depressing efforts that knows all the words but none of the music, stewing in its own fetid juices but leading nowhere. A shame, because Woods has a fun cast who are unafraid to run head first into the grubby material (and providing a reminder of Eckhart’s consummate skills in sleaze, which he rarely gets to stretch anymore).

The movie that got me into Eckhart and he does a great job. It's a fairly clever, crime thriller that allows you to get close to it. You can feel for the characters (there was a part or two that made me tear up... then again I'm a wussy too). More than enough to recommend here.
