A strange heist movie, where coincidence takes the reigns and the ride is more or less enjoyable. Bridges was pretty good, earning his second Oscar nomination in three years, and having only a half dozen or so credits to his name. It's a crime movie that knows when to play it cool, when to make it tense, when to toss in the laughs, and when to tug on the heartstrings.

What starts out as a very enjoyable buddy road movie switches gears completely in the second act to turn into a heist comedy. I loved the first part. Clint Eastwood is a lot of fun as a former bank robber turned preacher, and Jeff Bridges gives one of his best performances that I've seen, carrying the film whenever he is on-screen. Unfortunately the second half of the film is badly written with convenient plot twists, oddball slapstick humour and a bizarre ending. Still enjoyable but flawed.

Raggedy crime drama establishes Eastwood and Bridges an unlikely but endearing odd couple, while Cimino successfully accomplishes a comedy and action balancing act, especially when Kennedy and Lewis are introduced as fuming antagonists; it's the byplay between this quartet where magic happens. It's a shame that the second half is given over to an incoherent (and fairly dull) heist plot, as if Cimino ran out of ideas to keep the banter going, leading to a pretentious and nonsensical finale.

I was really surprised by the good chemistry of Eastwood and bridges. Eastwood is good as ever, but still Eastwood. First-timer Bridges gives a hint of his capabilties, what a fine actor he already was and is going to be later on. Unfortunately, the film lacks coherence, sometimes it is hard to follow plot developments. But in the end, what matters is the relationship of the characters, additionally carried by George Kennedy.

Love the tandem of Eastwood and Bridges -- Bridges was fantastic and gets even better at the end! George Kennedy was thoroughly entertaining as well. Could have used more BUSEY!

It's a god damn shame that film isn't in more 'best films of all time list' Then again, it's a damn shame that NO ONE seems to have heard of it, maybe because Cimino is better known for Deer Hunter, which he did straight after this. But, c'mon The Dude and Dirty Harry planning an elaborate heist and gunning it down desert roads in a convertible, WHATS NOT TO LIKE!

This is a good film with some unexpected things happening towards the end. Clint Eastwood and Jeff Bridges work well together in this film.

Cheesy at points, enticing mostly and with Eastwood and Bridges having so much chemistry they could invent the love potion, I was thoroughly entertained through the entire film. It is a really good buddy-movie and with Bridges shining so much, it just makes the movie feel like a grand spectacle despite being awkward at points. I mean Eastwood is the only guy who makes drinking beer and eating apples at the same time look cool. The ending left me with a bit of a downer, though. Poor Lightfoot.

Cimino, Eastwood, Bridges. Not indispensable, but a pretty nice entry in the canon of 70s caper movies.

So yeah. Clint Eastwood, Jeff Bridges. '70s buddy/road/caper movie. You almost don't even need to watch it now; just reread the last sentence and imagine what that might look like, and you're set.

One of my favorite Eastwood films; not as perfect as Unforgiven or as iconic as Dirty Harry or his work with Sergio Leone, but there's something special in the way it takes a buddy/heist -concept and turns it into a slice of small town Americana and a character piece with a lot detours and twists. Bridges is excellent in an early role, Clint is a bit more vulnerable than usual, Kennedy is great and Lewis' role might have influenced "Donny" in Coens' Lebowski. This gem deserves more attention.

Fun little buddy movie that seems to start out as a road-trip movie but ends as a caper flick. In an effort not to copy similar movies, it winds up being a little too conventional. It's by no means the greatest in the genre; it's still a decent (and at times silly) ride along the way. Fav moment: Jeff Bridges, in drag, trying NOT to be picked up by the wrong person.

Despite good performances by Bridges and Kennedy, this is a bit ponderous, with a kind of meh prime performance for Eastwood. It's a bit of a mashup of a buddy road movie and a heist movie. The humor generally didn't work particularly well for me and the story was just okay. Not a bad time, but disappointing given the talent involved.

Horribly dated and overlong. It tries far too hard to be a comedy but not hard enough to be funny
