Thunder in the Valley

This Hollywood version in full Technicolor was certainly better than the 1938 British adaptation Owd Bob (1938). Besides the production values, much of this is do to Edmund Gwenn and his very likable performance as this complicated old sheepherder full of anger and wits. Young Lon McCallister & Peggy Ann Garner bring the sweetness, while the rest contain themselves respectfully to give room for Gwenn to do his thing. The film might feel like sentimental drivel, but it delivers it well.
