Marvin Hayden returns to find his ranch is about to be sold at auction and the Hayden Jorth feud still going strong. Carson wants the Hayden ranch and tries to kill Hayden. When he fails he kills Chick Jorth with a rock. As Hayden does not carry a gun and the two had argued earlier, Hayden is arrested for the murder. With Hayden in jail, his friends Chito, Ginger, and his Lawyer Gardner now go to work to find the murderer. (imdb)

"Thunder Mountain" is a Western drama where the protagonist, adhering to a deep-seated moral code, avoids using a gun until circumstances leave no other choice. The plot, while straightforward, revolves around archetypal figures of the old Western, whose depth and complexity still need to be explored.

Thunder Mountain (1947) was the start to the rest of Tim Holt's career doing hour long B-westerns alongside his trusted sidekick Richard Martin. Alright and delivers what you'd expect from it, but it's not anywhere near the best of this format, but it was a good start.

This B western claims to be based on a Zane Grey novel, but it shares none of that novels plot. It's a serviceable little western that features Holt giving Martha Hyer a spanking. Jason Robards Sr. has a supporting role as an alcoholic lawyer.
