Esther Williams was so incredibly stunning here, and a such good match for Van Johnson in Thrill of a Romance. However, another one they tried to make a instant star was Lauritz Melchior. Quite a character with a booming voice. But they tried a little too much with him here. So much that he almost took over the entire movie. Thankfully Esther's beauty was untouchable and she kept her spotlight, but the flow of the story was chopped-up because Lauritz kept popping up. Still a really fun movie.

How does Julio know where his teacher lives, down to the house number? I'm glad the creepy husband didn't end up being the epic romance depicted on the cover. Esther Williams and Van Johnson made for good wartime escapism. I'm surprised this made it past the Hays code. My first Williams picture and I see why we won the war. I found Melchior charming and his voice made up for his presence. Beautiful hotel. Fav scene: they were just so sad when they realized it couldn't last.
