Annecy is no tourist destination for three working-class Algerian brothers and their father, in the months after their mother has died. Marc is deeply troubled: he tries to stiff drug dealers and then plots revenge. Christophe is released from jail, lands a job, and must overcome various temptations in order to keep it. Olivier, nearing 18, may be falling in love with Hicham, a young man who constantly practices capoeira on the shores of the lake.

I love the works Of Gael Morel and Christophe Honore. When you add the Brash Stephane Rideau, the sizzling Saim Kechiouche, and the sweet Thomas Dumerchez, an entertaining film is bound to happen. I love the chemistry and conflict of the actors and would love to see either an update or follow-up to this classic film.

All of Gaël Morel's films contain a poignant homoeroticism which isn't always matched by the forms or styles his films take. Here, three brothers & a brother's lover comprise a loving & complex clan. The film is divided into three parts for three brothers, and though all are woven into each, each section employs a slightly different narrative strategy. It's a rich, warm & often sad family portrait, owing much in style, particularly the final tracking shot, to Morel's mentor, André Téchiné.
