Three Christs

The performances are committed*, but for every step forward in acting quality it takes three steps back in saccharine stupidity. Frankly this has some of the most irrational editing choices I have ever seen in a feature and it makes you wonder what the raw footage looked like when it's not focused on Walton and Peter.

Its No 1 Flew Over (what is?!) Pulls its punches. As emotionally raw as could've been, it feels somewhat inert at times. Absolutely, actors piece elevating film above OK. All 3 Christs = actors really like spending time with (esp. Goggins) 2 superb performances (Goggins & Dinklage), 1 V good (Whitfield). Gere fine as a noble, likeable donut hole. More stimulating lead may‘ve helped. (Thought of R Williams in Awakenings). Sure in reality had 2've been more initial antagonism between the 3

Feels a bit too much like a CBS Sunday movie for the family.

I went into Three Christs thinking it would be a dark comedy, but it is instead a drama based on historical events and I can't help but be a little disappointed. Given the talent involved, the performances are good, though having the focus on Gere's character is both conventional and a little dull. Hope was surprisingly compelling, while the 3 Christs seem to lack dimensionality. Would have preferred more fun, more pointed commentary, and less contrived soppiness.

Outstanding cast in this story about insanity in the 50s. Goggins is perfect, and Charlotte Hope is superbly cast as the woman men, and the camera, are compelled to focus on. A suggested subtitle, "One Flew Out of the Cuckoo's Nest".
