Thrashin'

I can't believe Shakespeare was a few drafts away from this.

Like all great movies do, this plops you into an alternate but believable universe where belittling breakdancers segues seamlessly into having a skate joust. Ridiculous at every turn and gloriously entertaining. The only major difference between this and Rad is an ill-advised prolonged non-nude sex scene. BillyShears killed it on this, one of my favorite reviews.

You know all of those gestures and sayings you see in 80s parody movies but never saw them in actual 80s movies? Yeah, they're all in this one. Fun to watch but terrible.

A film set (and made in) the 1980s skateboarding boom, from what is obviously an alternate dimension. Gnarly! It's fucking ridiculous. Overlong montages, a paper-thin plot and worse characterization, a soundtrack which jumps between good and horrendous, some bad acting, and a general lack of fun. It's by the numbers and very tacky, without really getting across the interest and fun these characters get out of skateboarding. Or skate-jousting. Or hanging around in gangs laughing at breakers.
