Wow. It pains me to give a bad score to the Apatow crew, but this film was awful, even for a stoner comedy. 50% of the jokes were Hollywood inside jokes, and most of the rest were dick jokes. Danny stole the show, but there was little else to laugh at. The self-indulgence wore thin quickly, and I really hope this isn't the death knell for a group of seriously talented comic actors.

The first act is a fantastic blend of self deprecating humor and apocalyptic bonanza. Then follows an hour of hit n miss ad-lib water threading, before the plot finally gets back on track. But it does so satisfyingly over the top, that it's easy to forgive it for the duller parts.

Like superhero movies, this type of comedy became extremely popular a few years back, but is finally wearing out its welcome. In a way this is the quintessential Seth Rogen, Judd Apatow generation comedy: It's a relaxed style, off-the-cuff stoner comedy with gross-out bawdiness and the actors play themselves (this time literally). The script is weak and completely without structure or message. Lot's of talented, funny people keep it afloat, but it's time these comedies got less lazy.

Unwatchable. Celebrities sitting in a house being annoying. I can love a stoner comedy like Harold and Kumar, I love horror comedy like Tucker & Dale or The Worlds End, this is just dreck with a shockingly poor script.

A few laughs, probably more than a few if you're a Rogen fan, but also massively trapped up the ass of its own fame. Oooo, look, Hollywood stars show that they have a sense of humour by playing caricatures of themselves, ain't seen that in like an hour.

A heap of self-referential humor only goes so far in elevating This Is the End above its drain-pipe potty mouth antics and minimal budget. Once we get past 20 minutes of this film, it becomes quickly apparent the script had nowhere to go.

I love Seth Rogan, Jay Baruchel, and Jonah Hill. But taking that out of the equation, I was so pleasantly surprised by this flick (considering I'm very skeptical about Danny McBride and I've never really been much of a Craig Robinson fan, but let me tell you, EVERYBODY in this movie is awesome). It's silly but in the most hilarious sort of way. It's stoner comedy but it's REALLY GOOD stoner comedy. And what an ending, so out of left field but PERFECT! Do yourself a favor and don't miss this one.

Easily the best comedy of the first half of 2013... if you like these particular actors, which I do. If you don't, then of course stay far away. James Franco in particular gives a performance that would be a starmaking performance if he weren't already a star. Also enjoyed the Emma Watson cameo and the surprisingly badass demons.

Absolutely hilarious. Probably the funniest movie of the decade so far. If you enjoy these guys and their previous collaborations (particularly Pineapple Express), you'll love it. The cameos are amazing and everybody's willingness to have their careers mocked made it all the better. The cameo at the climax may have ousted the cameo from X-Men: First Class as the funniest of all time.

The plot is absolutely ridiculous. The dialog is crude, immature and sophomoric. The finale is especially lame. Special effects are entirely unconvincing. If you like movies full of insider jokes, pot smoking, offensive homophobic comedy then you might love this. I found it monumentally stupid, but not entirely horrible. For a moment I thought they might explain it all by them taking acid, and I think that would have made a better movie. Really good sound and music though. I wish it was funnier.

I was expecting this to fall somewhere between shit and a fun movie to watch with friends and ended up seeing it hoping for the latter. What I ended up with is a near perfect dumb stoner comedy with one to many giant dick jokes. Dumb done right. And anybody who says they went for easy jokes, you may be right, but to pull off a dumb joke really well takes more talent than people give it credit for. One of the better dumb comedies of the past decade or so.

This film is worth the watch for it's massive amount of cameos, but when the 6 leads take center stage it progressively gets worse right to the bitter end. The comedic talents involved obviously have some great jokes and hilarious antics up their sleeves, however; alongside the arsenal of mundane and banal dick jokes they are few and far between. The premise is great, but attempting to cram so much into so little really held this back from being a classic.

I thought the casting of Jay Baruchel was perfect. He's enough of a lower tier of star than the rest that he works well as a sympathetic protagonist for the audience to tag along with. Or maybe that's just me because I feel a kinship with him: crippling awkwardenss.

I enjoyed the first ten minutes and the last ten minutes, but the rest is just a set of sketches which don't add up to much comedy value. Plus a pretty weird set of jokes about sexual assault which often show a level of self-awareness but are also super uncomfortable and not funny at all. Too many tonal shifts and not enough coherence to hold it together.

I don't know if my high just started to wear off or if this movie just got less and less funny as it went on. I mean the beginning I was in tears but it all just went downhill. Still, it provided one of the best and most thought provoking rape jokes in a time where talking about rape culture seems to be more prevalent than rape itself. Other than that this is basically just the actors being able to poke fun at themselves and at each other. Once that novelty wore off it become pretty mediocre.

The film, up until around the last act and a half, is actually quite funny. James Franco, Michael Cera, and Jonah Hill all provide some hearty laughs, and the film keeps on, albeit if a bit slowly. However, when the eponymous shit starts, the film degrades from a silly dramatization of actors' lives to a weirdly religious unfunny sketch show. Probably a realistic recommendation though, no man should miss George Michael in the role of a lifetime.

The laughs are non-stop from start to finish, which is rare enough for any comedy, and they're consistently huge laughs throughout to boot. A daft high concept comedy about the apocalypse, This Is The End lines up a star studded cast of American films top rated funnymen under 40 playing themselves, or at least mild caricatures of their public personas. It works well in the first half as a self satisfied industry parody that's riffing on the disaster genre, but it quickly loses its way and begins spinning its wheels prematurely, throwing in a tired redemption/salvation theme as a desperate move forward. McBride is hilarious though.

I was beyond excited to go see this when it came out, and I left the theater feeling extremely let down. There was a ton of hype built around this movie, and with such a star-studded cast, I didn't think there'd be any way for this to fail for me. The problem definitely lay in them killing off all the other actors within the first twenty minutes; then it's just them being dicks to each other for the rest of the movie. I will say I loved Jonah Hill in this, but otherwise, I wouldn't rewatch.

The celebrities-playing-themselves bit definitely provides some good laughs; funny scenes are made funnier because it's Jay Baruchel being made fun of, not a character, for example. The six leads are all in good form and the other cameos are solid as well. The outrageous apocalypse plot serves as a good backdrop for the humour but as the story progresses and quasi-religious elements begin to enter the mix, it starts to feel much too silly, tainting an otherwise decent comedy.

Michael Cera is actually a nice guy! Get it?) Wow. This movie is just NOT funny and was painful to watch. The saddest part is the writers thought they were being clever when in reality the film was so dumb and self-obsessed it missed its own point. How's that for irony, Rogen? Like a lot of straight comedies that stretch past 90 minutes, it loses some steam in the second half when the plot starts to take over, but the great cast (McBride in particular, whose argument with Franco about jizzing everywhere is arguably the highlight of the film) and concept carry it off. While the concept and premise were very good, the execution was messy as hell. Seth is a good writer but keep him away from the director's chair. The material must've looked preety cool on paper but without proper direction you are lost. However, I can apreciate the effort, and at least trying something new.
