Things Behind the Sun

Misjudged drama is well intentioned, but fatally crippled by the odd decision to re-contextualise the story of a female rape survivor as the 'harrowing' journey of the boy who must atone for his guilt for not preventing the attack. The far-reaching corrosive effect violent crime can have on all involved is a worthy message, but this film seems to ultimately trivialise the suffering of the real victim (Dickens, in an excellent performance). Mann's monotonous performance doesn't help matters.

Top badass moment? Under the circumstances, the fact that Sherry didn't end up wanting to do something very nasty to Owen is pretty badass. In fact her whole reaction to his news seemed a bit subdued. A bit like what I've written here really, but I've got a headache at the moment. Your sympathy would be appreciated... Oh yes, nearly forget; it was good to see hero Chuck driving the ultimate in rock 'n' roll motors, a Volvo. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.
