Here is something a little more artistic from Ealing. Adapting J.B. Priestley's play for the big screen. Ramblings of hope during the dark years with minimal dreamy sets. I couldn't make up my mind if I loved it or hated it, soI'll just say I appreciated the attempt and leave it at that.

Basil Dearden Seldomly disappoints, and this is no exception. The seamless transitions beetween the character motivations is so realistic and well done - despite the surreal setting. A true tale of human potential and rebirth of those that have made mistakes. The film is not much for visuals, but the self awareness of the script makes up for it, social commentary galore.

That was an experience that just move me to my core. The unabashed hope for humanity, the longing for that perfect city, desperately wanting the revolution but being afraid of it ever being possible. When Joe gave his monologue at the end, how he overcame his sourness (so familiar to many), I just couldn’t stop crying, I want that future.
