These Wilder Years

Rather sweet, really. Stanwyck's character is almost saintly, which doesn't sound very interesting... perhaps it ISN'T the most interesting role she's every played, but she has real backbone, and though the whole movie could easily be cloying and maudlin, it never is. It doesn't go for easy, pat resolutions, but embraces the complications (perhaps that's why it was a flop at the time).
