There's Something in the Barn

Wanted to like this more. For a killer Santa Elf movie you'd think they could fill 100 mins. Alas, they could not. Felt like it should have been a 30 min short film stretched far beyond anything reasonable. I like Martin Starr and the premise is funny so why not. You could do worse of course for a silly horror comedy. Just felt like a half-baked gremlins attempt without all the laugh out loud moments. Some elements landed, but it got tedious pretty quick. Watch it w a few drinks. 4.1

The family was annoying and the Elves & kills were underwhelming and disappointing. Equal parts amusing and annoying.

“Gremlins” meets “Home Alone” in this playful, silly, and snarky holiday horror film about Norwegian barn elves on a rampage. The movie works so well because it never takes itself too seriously — and neither should you.

Completely silly but adds nicely to the annual Christmas collection.

First the Finns took on Santa Claus in Rare Exports, now the Norwegians do the tomtenisse? What are we gonna be left with, Dark Karl Bertil Jonsson? This is no Rare Exports, though. It's cozy enough, and it has some fun setpieces (kicksled race!) but between the flat acting, low bodycount and the predictable fish-out-of-water comedy it never really moves past the wouldn't-it-be-cool-if of the basic premise.
