There's something about Mary that still bewitches Ted. Although he hasn't seen her in over a dozen years, since that shameful prom night, his heart still flutters at the recollection of her. Perhaps it's because this movie was a big-ass deal when it came out and I, tender little indie soul that I am, immediately dislike things that are wildly popular because I'm an elitist snot---but this movie did nothing for me. It was just littered with self-conscious (but somewhat tepid) gross-out humor and was far too over-the-top for me. Also, Cameron Diaz has that weird heaving retard laugh and I don't like her.

Stiller is in a couple of funny scenes, Diaz doesn't suck too bad, but the real surprise for me was Matt Dillon. He is extremely funny as the raging jackass Healy, especially his attempts to be the perfect boyfriend.

Re-ranking this. I saw this movie so, SO many times in its first few years of existence, and it was referenced so much in late 90s pop culture that I became numb to it, but after seeing it again for the first time in way over a decade I remember how fantastic this really is. It's on a higher level than almost every other "great" comedy released since 1998.

Started out promising...and funny...but, as the movie progressed, it declined both in humor and enjoyability. Towards the end, very fast. And, for the record, Ben Stiller's crying at the end is pathetic.

If you must see one of Ben Stiller's 20 plus movies that have the same plot, see this one, if only to hear Matt Dillon say, "I work with retards." Easily one of the best, if not the best, of the bunch of contrived Stiller-driven vehicles.

I still can't get over Matt Dillon's pants being undone in his office when he's first introduced. The movie has a lot of good wardrobe choices like that throughout the film to develop or enhance characterization. Basically, it's more than just the big gross gags that stick in your mind.

For every kind of funny bit of physical comedy or one-liners, there's another super dumb gross-out scene that feels just thrown in for no good reason. It doesn't have the dumb charm of Dumb and Dumber and some of the jokes feel really, really dated and kind of mean-spirited. Ben Stiller, Cameron Diaz, and Matt Damon all have good chemistry and there are definitely still some fantastic comedic moments, but comedy gold this is not.

I like more sophisticated humor, but that doesn't mean I didn't laugh at some of the antics. There are a few parts where I thought that if they got rid of the over-the-top raunchy parts they might have had a real classic ... but then again, nobody would have watched it.

Although the Farrelly Brothers thrive in the low brow comedic arena, the very hilarious Dumb and Dumber had a remarkable degree of wit on display. There's Something About Mary, in contrast, rarely displays the same wit and instead has us follow a number of unsettling and sleazy suitors as they continually involve themselves in crude gags and braindead predicaments. I definitely laughed a few times, but this Farrelly Bros. entry is less than intelligent.

Mildly amusing in places, crass in some, boring in others. We are asked to believe Cameron Diaz grows up to be a successful orthopaedic surgeon with her own practice, whilst failing to be able to distinguish semen from hair gel. The idea of casting an english actor to play someone who is actually american was inexplicable. and the business with the guy with hives? This is a mess of sketches put together as a (long) film that doesnt warrant the attention it gets. The dog scenes steal it, though

Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz go together like Franks and Beans in this raunchy comedy. I really do like this movie. It has a zany cast of misfits all in love with Mary, played by Diaz. The musical interludes make me happy between each scene. The hair gel scene will always live in infamy...

I'm surprised that Ben Stiller was cast in a comedy movie like this. It has been long known to science that Ben Stiller is the opposing force to humor, much like baking soda cancels out vinegar. You're left with this WATERed-down movie (IT'S A SCIENCE JOKE, HAH!)

Man was this ever over hyped. I think the first time I watched this I didn't even crack a smile once. Second time was a little better but I could have been as amused watching just about any other generic low brow comedy aimed at the high school college crowd. I guess raunchy doesn't equal funny to me not even when I was a teen.

It's funny and it has some really memorable/iconic moments. It's also oddly sweet, which is tough to pull off in a raunchy comedy like this. It fails in some of the zanier and physical comedy (like resuscitating the dog), but it provides consistent laughs.

"There's Something About Mary" is overstuffed and the humor is generally uneven, but there is several funny stuff to keep one almost constantly amused. Although some of the gags fall flat and the pacing is problematic, there are also plenty of laugh-out-loud sequences of over-the-top raunciness. It's nothing spectacular overall, but it's solid, light fun.

A comedy that wasn't afraid to push the envelope. And it worked! "There's Something About Mary" might be pretty raunchy at times, but it's very funny. You also find yourself caring about the characters. I was expecting to be disappointed by this film, honestly. But I wasn't. I was pleasantly surprised. Check it out. By the way, Cameron Diaz's hair on the DVD cover might look innocent enough, but trust me...

The dam broke a long time ago, and the Farrellys are simply paddling as fast as they can to catch up with the crest of the wave. There is no funnier movie ever made. The only other one I would put in the same bracket is Steve Martin's "The Jerk". I remember hearing Ebert review it, saying it was a new kind of comedy, with not just a scene setting up a punchline and next scene; instead it's rolling building laughs that last an entire scene.
