The Young Poisoner's Handbook

One of those consistently very good films that never reaches greatness. It has an interesting subject, creates tension and suspense very well and has some strong performances. It all feels just slightly disjointed and underdeveloped. Not enough to hurt the film watching experience, but enough to make you feel this could have been something more.

Well acted and very well paced. A fine way to spend an hour and half but it's not very memorable.

A surprisingly fun movie to watch, for one based on a real murder case. The dark humor is pretty thick in this one, with moments of genuine drama sprinkled in as well. Hugh O'Conor does an amazing job as Graham.

This is OK. It's fairly entertaining, and I might even go so far as to say it's quite funny in places. What I don't like, though is the impression it gives, that being that it thinks it's cleverer than audience. Whether this is deliberate or not, it's annoying. Most moviegoers these days - and indeed, back when this was made - are and were quite an intelligent bunch. This seems not to think that, and, forgive me, but I'm rather irked by that.

Disturbing, but in the end a dull and predictable film.

The lead manages to really capture the role of an emotionless sociopath through an unexpectedly subtle sort of vacuousness. A very compelling little docu-drama.
