The big bad who can’t feel pain is a bad villain, the idiot goes around holding molten hot rocks while his skin sizzles “uhhh pretty sure you can still get infections idiot” Super real talk: Denise Richards in the 90s was so stupid attractive. She's a fox. In French, she would be called "la renarde" and she would be hunted with only her cunning to protect her.

A smooth operator called James Bond sipping Vodka Martinis, ruining cars and wooing the ladies? Check. YEP - IT'S A 007 MOVIE ALRIGHT! Note to fellow reviewers: How is Christmas Jones any more stupid a name than Pussy Galore or Holly Goodhead? Oh, five extra points for this movie having John Cleese in it. Not the best in the series but entirely OK.

Every direction you hope they go they go the other way so it makes for a very frustrating viewing experience. The villain may have worked with a better actor being cast and if they would've cut out the emotional side of him and made him more Zorin-esque but unfortunately he almost gets to the brink of tears in one scene which is laughable for a Bond villain. With some cool action scenes in the previous film you are really left wanting here, there's not one memorable scene.

I think the Brosnan-era Bonds all get a slightly higher rating from me because the late-90s/early-00s action blockbuster feels so nostalgic. Also, I have been saying, "I thought Christmas only comes once a year" in a British accent over and over again since I have seen this, and my partner is getting irritated.

Yes, Denise Richards is not a remotely plausible physicist (although her performance is fine for the series) & would work better in a campier entry, but her silliness (& other silliness) sticks out b/c there is some great stuff here. Marceau plays the 1st Bond girl since Diana Rigg to have her own backstory & arc. Then the writers deliver something truly original: the 1st Bond girl/villain. Bond's face-off w/ her feels truly personal & the sub climax is 1 of the series' most thrilling.

Drops the previous entry's reliance on bad technobabble. The first half is actually pretty good - on track for maybe a 7.5/10. Then Denise Richards shows up. She doesn't singlehandedly ruin the rest of the movie (not for lack of trying), but signals a general downturn after which everything goes wrong.

Denise Richards is woefully miscast, but it's also got one of the best pair of villains in the series - medically improbable, perhaps, but great personality - which pulls it up again. Then there are the sawblade helicopters, which seem like they should be a mid-boss in a Megaman game, so down it goes. But then there's the cold open... It's a frustrating movie at the end of the day, because some great ideas are hidden by some really poor decisions.

Carlyle and Cleese are great, everything else is meh. It's hard to take a movie serious when it stars Denise Richards as a nuclear scientist named Christmas. It has many fun action scenes, special settings, and tense moments. The bodyguard theme is new and interesting, though it limits the scope of the story a little, which forces to try and keep it tight. It underlines the few parts where it wobbles at times. The scene with the beluga felt a bit like clownery, but the tense end scenes bring it back up and makes you forget previous issues. Christmas is abysmally bad and ruins a lot of the dialog and action scenes she is in. Still smooth overall

(2nd viewing) Shave off a solid 20 minutes and you would’ve had a film as swiftly paced as its predecessor. Which is a shame because it starts off with what’s easily one of the best pre-title sequence of the franchise, but it takes a nosedive from there with too many slumps where the film loses momentum and the villain is instantly forgettable. I’ll end on a positive note, I think Brosnan may just be the best actor to have ever played the part, dude just owns it.

Joyless, vapid, and dull. A casting switch might have helped - Richards could have been a hoot as Elektra, the villain-as-spoiled-brat (prescient too given that, in 1999, Britney and Paris were just starting to make waves) and Marceau would have at least been passable (though still boring) as a nuclear physicist...but no such luck. It's no fun at all, which makes it the worst Bond ever.

I thought this movie was good. Denise Richards and Sophie Marceau are in this. So basically Bond is protecting Sophie in this movie to protect a pipeline. Then you find out a lot of betrayals in this movie and who the real bad guy or Woman is. Not a lot of action in this movie. Not one of the better movies but not crap either.

I recalled this as one of the very worst Bonds, but turns out I mostly mixed it with Die Another Day. It's a good looking film, surprisingly story driven and Apted handles the action & drama equally. Elektra's character has more depth than usual; that's why Carlyle's cliched bad guy feels out of place. Denise Richards as scientist also requires a lot of suspension of disbelief. It only starts to run out of breath when it gets to the nuclear submarine, continuing the trend of lackluster endings.

I started my review of TND by saying that it's straight from 1964. This feels like it was spawned by that god-awful Casino Royale non-MGM/Eon production only given more money and a B-movie script. This is officially where James Bond should have had it's dark and gritty reboot because it seems like no one in charge of production realized that the 60's was about to be 40 years in the past.

I enjoy the return of Robbie Coltrane, Sophie Marceau plays a very fun baddie, and the score makes good use of the awesome theme song. Brosnan is also my favorite actor for the role of Bond, so it does make up some points for that. But the plot is extremely tired, the action sequences aren't all that memorable, and Denise Richards is as terrible as everybody says she is. In this case, the good and the bad completely balance each other out.

Pierce Bronson was adequate in the role. Great music and high production quality. Plot is poor to bad. Sophie Marceau is gorgeous and wonderful. Rather poor gadgets and silly vehicles. Typical bond plot, mostly unconvincing. He inexplicably manages to be in the right place at the right time and his luck is beyond belief. Denise Richards was beautiful but unconvincing. Good pacing and tons of action make it worth watching, but you have to turn your brain off to enjoy it.

I've seen The World is Not Enough a few times before, but watching it again in 2023 reinforces how forgettable it is. The film peaks with its opening sequence but fizzles out mostly due to lousy villains with a silly plot. Notable events: Cleese is introduced as Q's replacement; Dench's M gets more involved; Carlyle is wasted; Marceau is not good & I liked Richards as a nuclear physicist more this time round. The action sequences are fun despite some dated CGI. Ultimately it's just forgettable.

The World Is Not Enough is another mediocre Bond film of the 90's. Despite Pierce Brosnan's best efforts, the wrest of this film is of uneven and of mixed quality throughout. The cast is strong on paper but Robbie Coltrane is the only worthy addition. And despite the huge array of exciting set pieces, ultimately they only cover the cracks of a forgettable and uninteresting Bond film. However the pre-title River Thames sequence and the skiing sequences are undoubtedly impressive and enjoyable.

The clumsy, overlong prologue gets THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH off to a suitable start: the film that follows is generally dull, lacking in wit, energy, or fun--my least favorite of the Bond series, and possibly the weakest as well. Even if you cut it slack for being incredibly ridiculous, that doesn't overcome the villains' lack of flair, the humdrum action scenes, Denise Richards' miscasting as a nuclear physicist, or the limp, murky writing. Brosnan does what he can, but that isn't enough here.

While this movie is entertaining, has some fun ideas, and is fun to watch, its lack of depth unfortunately means that it is promptly forgotten for better recent Bond movies such as Goldeneye or Casino Royale. A few parts it just goes to far, even for a Bond film, and Richards would be a decent Bond girl if her acting wasn't as stiff as me when I watch her. Arguably the weakest Bond film of all, "The World Is Not Enough" is just not good enough (pun intended): the unfocused direction (fuck all the melodrama) makes for an underwhelming result despite some memorable scenes. On the plus side: M in a more active role, John Cleese as R and Q bowing out in an eerily prophetical way: one month after the premiere, Desmond Llewelyn, 85, would pass away, having appeared in 17 out of the 19 Eon Bond films.
