I don't care if it's a little formula. Loved Sam Rockwell and enjoyed this movie from start to finish.

Sam Rockwell is great in the lead role of this film. The rest of the actors are also well cast for this movie. The script has some predictable moments and some original ones. Overall I would recommend this film.

It's essentially a slight rip-off of Hoosiers only with a girl's team. Rockwell is a combination of both the drunk and the head coach who lost his old job due to a vaguely reference incident with his old team. I would like to give it some credit for trying to discuss some different problems than what we usually see in these types of movies and actually letting it be a female team. Unfortunately the basketball scenes and almost every bit of dialogue by said by a teenager are awful.

The Winning Season isn't really a great film, but you know what? It's good enough. It does enough right to potentially warrant a watch, especially if you're the age, or approaching the age, of some of its main characters. It has a strong leading performance from Sam Rockwell, it touches on some issues and themes that need addressing, it has a realistic portrayal of high school athletics, and it gives a sport that often goes unnoticed its own movie.

Sam Rockwell is good as always and Corddry's red pants is lol. Other than that kinda shit mildly entertaining standard underdog sports film.

I tend to hate formula movies and groaned when this one came on the set, but it won me over: this is dry comedy that unlike the millennial version is actually funny and insightful. There is a message in here too but it is the usual message of sports films and kept vague and almost impressionistic. Performances by Rockwell and Roberts are over the top but just a rat hair short of being out of place.

Quite an uplifting film although it feels slightly incomplete. Sam Rockwell is really funny as the asshole coach. Some of the girls stories are only brushed over, and most don't really get that finish they deserved. The weird principal needed a final chapter.

I saw this a few years ago and barely remember anything about it. Your typical; eh, that was okay forgettable movie. It has some nice moments.

I thought at first I wasn't going to like this movie but it turned out turned out to be pretty good.

I don't think I would have a problem with Sam Rockwell being in every movie.

I really only watched this because I am a Sam Rockwell fan. It's funny because this was the usual disney-esque sports film cliche mixed with a drunken, foul mouthed Rockwell. As a result, it wasn't half bad. Again proves that Sam Rockwell is entertaining enough to give a performance in virtually anything.

"Considering its status as merely a puddle of regurgitated elements, The Winning Season is, to be as coarse as its protagonist, the cinematic equivalent of vomit." - Nick Schager

I like Rockwell's performance, but this hits every sports movie cliche and doesn't produce many laughs.
