The Whisperers

A forgotten gem, belongs on the british classics list without doubt, an excellent film.

If the film had the courage to continue in the same vein as the first 30 and last 15 minutes, it would be very close to a 100 for me, but sadly the pesky thing of a conventional plot interjected in the middle detracting from the opening brilliance on display. Edith Evans was up against Katharine Hepburn, Anne Bancroft and Faye Dunaway for best actress at the Academy Awards so she never stood a chance but she easily surpassed and out-acted all of them with this mind-shattering performance.

Few films are so depressing that they're haunting. Edith Evans is remarkably out of this world.
