The Wasteland

A father feels abandoned by the empty universe and finds a pretext to abandon his family; his wife feels his abandonment and craves connection so much she's willing to abandon her child; the child feels these abandonments, but seems to learn to persevere. Sounds promising? Maybe, but these abstracted horror films about a nameless dread and so on have become a kind of formula, it seems, and this one doesn't really convince. That the beast relies on telephonic communication is kind of interesting.
