In the middle of a routine patrol, officer Daniel Carter happens upon a blood-soaked figure limping down a deserted stretch of road. He rushes the young man to a nearby rural hospital staffed by a skeleton crew, only to discover that patients and personnel are transforming into something inhuman. As the horror intensifies, Carter leads the other survivors on a hellish voyage into the subterranean depths of the hospital in a desperate bid to end the nightmare before it's too late. (imdb)

A bunch of fun ingredients are put in the pot but then they forget to turn the pot off and it burns and it's a big mess and it flings out of the pot as an eldritch horror that leaves you confused and unsatisfied. The guy's big plan is to have his daughter back, he creates this shambling flesh monster and goes "Ah there she is" and I just imagined this guy taking this monster to get family portraits and the photographer's face melting into pus filled cavern and spooky dad rolling his eyes "again"

I'd much rather have a movie with some flaws but a sense of creative enthusiasm behind it than... than... [Looks back at The Beyond with a sour expression]. Anyhoo, this worked for me, despite a simple setup and lack of decent characters. The physical effects were welcome and nicely gross, and as a whole it scratched that 'trapped in a crummy location while Evil is preparing for something' itch. Mental note; itch caused by weird new appendage, check with doctor or cult leader.

Don't have the time or patience for slow burn in your low-budget Lovecraft? Well, the Void has you covered. A mutated man-horror, masked cultists, and a (nearly) abandoned country hospital appear less than 10 minutes in, and it's all downhill (to the lowest ring of hell) from there. Now, if you require any sort of coherence in your viewing material, I humbly suggest either a shopping mall fountain or a Cabbage Patch kid commercial.

If the hellraiser wanted to have rosemarie's baby, but instead ended up with the thing, this movie would still be a mess. So sadly, no news on the (event) horizon.

Those guys in the triangle masks are legit terrifying. That would be a great flash mob idea. without the murder I would hope. Its got some good scares and some real heavy campiness that is hard to ignore, but whatcha gonna do, endings are hard when youre on a budget.

out of all the adaptations of Lovecraft's prose poetry, this is the best (sadly, not only). I'm getting kind of tired of "retro horror" scores, but then I also don't want to go back to violins or dumb as dogshit metal guitars. So what am I gonna do, get creeped out by the ever present domestic electric hum of found footage soundscapes? For shit, I say! In conclusion,The Void is a better than average horror flick for you to bro out to because it isn't boo scare city.

Nice practical effects but that's about all. I'm not sure any movie can successfully bring Lovercraftian horror to screen; this tries and fails miserably. It's a pretty shambolic mess of ideas ripped from other superior horrors that delivers nothing new and rarely delivers any scares.

It's like a stupid Canadian rendition of a Cliver Barker story with sweet ass creature design and awesome practical effects. I'm all for the monsters and gore, but when you're story sounds like it was written by a guy (or pair of guys) from a trailer park on a steady daily diet of two cases of Molson and a gallon of maple syrup with dubious literacy, then don't be surprised when you get shitty reviews. I know you're about to say "...but the monsters are..." Shut up, go back to school.

Strong performances, great effects, gruesome gore & excellent use of tension all make this worth watching, even though the story it's trying to tell never quite comes together. It's a fairly unique spin on the evil cult subgenre, throwing in some cosmic elements, but it just doesn't really live up to its potential & the main twist didn't do it for me at all. What was the point of the cult, anyway? It didn't really feel like there was one. Again, though, this is definitely worth checking out.

A very bad movie, very well done. Production design and effects are worth 50 points on their own. I leave as a simple math problem to the reader how much the direction, acting and story add up to.

B-tier schlock, about on par with a Syfy Channel original movie, but with none of the tongue-in-cheek self-awareness those things usually have. These characters are so vaguely sketched that it's hard to care about the terrors subjected upon them (which aren't very terrifying, even if the practical effects are appreciated).

Not great acting, horrible story and pacing, FUCKING AWESOME practical effects return. especially for a b-budget type flick, super ambitious with the practical effects and glorious, awesome LACK of cgi. and oh its good stuff in that department. personally love it.

The Void suffers from too many ideas packed into 90 minutes of film. The filmmakers get some great imagery on the screen but then get bogged down with a dozen different subplots. The aesthetic is clearly Carpenter-like, which is handsomely done. A strong effort, batshit-crazy effort.

I mean...this IS an interesting little Hellraiser/Silent Hill movie, and the effects ARE pretty good. With maybe a little more time and better pacing, this could have been a pretty decent movie. Or maybe just more boring? Eh, it's a toss-up.

Amazing practical effects make this movie far more memorable than it would be without them. The John Carpenter influence is clear, but the biggest differences are that this movie lacks memorable or likable characters, and doesn't really give the story and scenery time to breathe.

Someone really likes their John Carpenter. From the sometimes understated rhythmic score to the obvious influence of The Thing and Assault on Precinct 13, unfortunately, it fails to deliver on either of those homages due mostly to some sub-par acting.

Some very interesting story elements here and there, particularly when it wears its Lovecraft and Silent Hill inspirations most proudly. However, the first half is a slow mess of clunky storytelling and characterizations that ends up undermining the narrative once things get moving in earnest.

A lovingly rendered Lovecraftian nightmare with strong allusions to The Thing, Hellraiser, and old-school horror of the same ilk. While it does nothing particularly new, it certainly refines and sands down the imperfections of its predecessors. It's captivating even when you can see the next twist coming down the road. Horror pastiche at its finest.

It may be more than a little clunky in parts, and a host of unresolved plot threads proves problematic, but there's no denying that "The Void" is a visual nightmare for the ages, a practical masterpiece that deserves recognition for being truly inspired, even if it isn't always perfection.

Really starts out so well and keeps up the nightmarish moods well for most of the movie. It was really a whole thing of 'what if you were stuck in a twisted level of Hell with all the horrors surrounding you' -kind of a thing for me, and it worked! For the most part. In the end, it just gets a bit too fantastical to be effectively creepy anymore. Great visuals and body horror and I really love all kinds of cosmic horror -stuff, but it goes into action territory in the end.

It really is a remake of Hellraiser II, plus some aspects from John Carpenter (mostly The Thing & Prince of Darkness). Your enjoyment of this depends on whether you accept that The Void is a "homage" rather than a ripoff, and how much you get out of classic gore special effects. Just like Hellraiser II seemed to have inspired Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, there were parts of this that felt exactly like a GMD episode played straight.

This movie really gave us the gung-ho, emotionally driven, and acts like a tough asshole, cop and treated him as the good guy with no arc of him trying to be a better person or learning? The Void is void of characterization or pacing. The movie drops you nearly right in the middle of the action and introduces way to many characters that all play too much of a key role in the main plot. Sad cause the premise of the film, the mythos, the set design, and the practical effects; are all amazing.

Finally sat down and watched this, bad acting, poor editing and a nonexistent script really hamper the highlights of the movie in the creature design/production and nightmare world scenes. Very clear the guys behind it are more adept at creatures/gore/sfx than they are directing.

It kind of feels like Last Shift, if it was less focused and scary. Sure it's kind of fun at some points and I thought creature design and costuming were quite good, but overall, the acting, the horrid dialogue, and the lack of any convincing plot or motivation really dragged this one down for me. Might be a good mindless watch.
