The Velvet Vampire

It's really bad, but the entertaining kind of bad, & that saves it just enough. The best actor in the cast is hands down Celeste Yarnall, who turns in a fairly convincing & eerie performance as seductive vampire Diane. Unfortunately, the other two leads are wooden & bland throughout the whole 80 minute runtime, much like the thin plot. What makes this one worth watching is the sheer unintentional hilarity of it, which comes courtesy of random jump cuts & bad attempts at arthouse flair.

Definitely one of those odd cult flicks that is probably due for an update at the hands of one of the remaining physical media companies. Also manages to be pretty erotic at times. I feel that this had to have been one of the influences on The Hunger.

once you get into it’s rhythm it is just intoxicating. Love the desert landscapes and the hippy interiors juxtaposing against normal vampire mythologies. It takes part almost fully at day! While some of the vampire mythos are gone what remains is the aching sexual tensions in most modern vampire tales. An interesting twist on the modern sexual revolution dynamic where women pull all the strings and suck the blood.
