Robert Allen peak period as a actor was when he got to be the cowboy hero in six films from 1936-37 in the "Bob Allen, Ranger" film series. The first one of those was The Unknown Ranger (1936), a complete disappointment and a sign he wasn't going to last very long as a lead guy. A totally phoned-in B-western production where the uncharismatic fresh leading man stood no chance of making a good first impression.
