The Universe of Dermot Finn

Well, the film is okay. I confess I don't tend to care much for short narrative films. I rather like what Ridley is trying to do here: he sets up two situations in opposition to each other which mutually suggest the absurdity of the other. We should not get too comfortable with our notions of normalcy. Not an especially profound statement, but I do enjoy an opportunity to see angel cake and canaries afresh, and point and laugh.

I have a very high opinion of Philip Ridley as a storyteller but I have to confess it hangs partially on some good will. His stories are often weirdly blatant yet at the same time subtle and poetic. They are both naive and dark in a very peculiar way that really appeals to me.
