I have time for these slow-burning gritty dramas, when there’s a point to them or when the journey is worth taking. Neither applies here. It has potential – Bullock puts in a shift and the direction is on point – but the issues the film purports to deal with (How do you treat a convicted murderer? If a criminal serves their time do they deserve a fresh start in life? etc.) are swiftly eroded by the big twist in the story: a poorly-conceived plot device that removes much more than it adds.

Very good drama about convict. Albeit I didn't liked the ending.

Lately, I'm seeing an unhealthy trend of relying on twists in Netflix movies regardless of genre. Drama, comedy, westerns, doesn't matter, they all have a twist now. This movie, Red Notice, Power of the Dog, Harder They Fall. This is not gonna end well. This is where I call you out Netflix. This is my last warning. [Insert a twist] Wooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. Okay, next movie.

Powerful performance by Sandra Bullock [spoiler] The character painting is strong, however, it feels undermined by only the innocent being worthy of redemption.

It pulls you in right away and you never once feel like you can look away until the ending. Bullock's performance is a career best, with an uncompromisingly real, brutal demeanor that carries all of the weight the character has endured. I loved how the story unfolded, showing the many different lives effected by that one terrible act and how it continues to unfold with her release from prison. The climax could have been a little stronger in my opinion, but this was a tour de force!

A decent pancake topped with cane sugar, cheese, bacon, maple syrup, butter, sprinkles and whipped cream. In other words, too bad Bullocks fine role gets smothered. Bernthal, as always, is a hoot.

It looks Iike Fingscheit is trying to break into the U.S. industry, and had this total embarrassment of a script foisted upon her by the studio system. There is no other way that the auteur behind "System Crasher" would stoop to this. It's clichéd, hokey, and more than anything - far fetched in every turn it takes. Oh my God is it far fetched.

I didn't expect to like this as much as I did. Depressing subject matter, but heard Bullock was very good. She did not disappoint. Nor did most of the characters in it. There were decisions made that I didn't quite understand, as they were very masochistic, but overall this is a well made film. 7.4

Hakkında bir sürü olumlu şey okumama rağmen Netflix'de bu kalitede ve güzellikte bir film izleyebileceğim aklımın ucundan geçmezdi. Şaşırttı.

Seems like the typical 90s Oscar bait that today just doesn't click anymore. But hey, at least there is a fine instrumental piano version of Everything In Its Right Place, so I can't complain much.

Sandra Bullock turns probably the best performance of her career but this movie tries to add in one extra element in the final act that does not work well. Aside from that it is very tense, very well laid out and very well performed by all the actors who had even the smallest of roles. It rests on Bullocks shoulders to carry Ruths burden and she conveys that with every expression and every word. A very good movie. Recommend this one if you want to feel something from the films you watch.

Bullock is amazing, one of her best. It is well shot, well edited film. It’s just not that surprising and too long. Other than that it is a decent drama

This is a quality film. I love movies that ask the question "how would YOU handle this?" and "what are YOUR prejudices / where are YOUR sympathies?" for all the main characters. Lovely cast, and the scene between Davis and Bullock is absolutely stunning; When Davis says nothing, boy, does she say an awful lot!. I look forward to Pt2, when the recriminations start as Katie blames her foster parents for hiding the letters, and for Emily to be grounded for meeting Ruth -- that will be a cracker!

I felt like if I read a brief summary of the film, I would imagine exactly this film. It was not surprising except for the unnecessary plot twist in the end. The choice of cast is confusing, the younger sister resembles the sister's childhood much more, than the other, real one.

Very thrilling movie with a great twist at the end. Lovely movie about 2 sisters that should not have been apart. Bullock plays her role very well. The only thing I didn't like is that you already know what is going to happen with the 2 brothers from the start... Pretty lame that this was also the climax of the movie
