The Ugly

This little late-90's horror-thriller out of New Zealand packs a lot of really interesting stuff, from the unique editing- which I appreciated quite a bit- to the overall story structure. The two lead performances are solid, with Rebecca Hobbs giving a hell of a monologue in the third act. Sadly, though, the pacing is clunky & the narrative doesn't make a lot of sense when you try to put it together. With a more revised script this could've been fantastic, but it's still worth a watch as is.

Not a great story, but it has some pretty effective, unsettling visuals.

They attempted to make a quality horror film with this one, but it just ain't there. The gore in this one is all black, which I guess was an attempt to say... something, but which just comes across as pretentious
