The Tunnel

Procedural, but well-executed disaster movie with the protagonist trapped in Castaway-like isolation under a mountain of rubble. The script is set up not only terrorise him with the constant threat of collapse, but also to introduce a moral dilemma between cold logic and human kindness. It's by-the-numbers stuff but acted very well, and the director ends up glorifying the everyman victim, while making the media and government look like heartless scum. Hollywood remake imminent in 2-4 years?

Quality Korean production about a man trapped when a tunnel is caved in. Perhaps a little too much stalling, the film still captures the drama both inside and outside of the disaster area.

Good film with high production values and solid acting. The story is pretty basic which isn't a bad thing. The film is a bit too long and the story is drawn out longer than it needed to be, also the ending wrapped up a bit too quick considering how long it took to get there. Also I would've like to know how he managed to survive as long as he did.

Tense.

Very good. Well acted, good cast all around. The drama has short interludes illustrating the incompetence of government/industry/the press and their callous approach to how the tunnel was built and how inconvenient it was to have to rescue this guy. Well worth a look. Korean cinema surprises again.
