Richard Carewe has raised his deceased friend's son from childhood with the help of his housekeeper and her beautiful daughter, Phyllis. He arranges a marriage between Phyllis and the boy, but the rascal impulsively marries a notorious nightclub singer, "the Firefly", instead. The femme fatale dumps the boy when she discovers he has no money, but by then Phyllis realizes she is in love with Richard, not his foolish ward. (imdb)

An entertaining if totally forgettable little romantic comedy. You could say its attitude towards relationships is a little dated, but it's actually sort of bitingly critical in its portrait of desperate sadboys. Also, the fact that the focus is more on Loretta Young (who is like a broader prototype to Audrey in Metropolitan) and Myrna Loy is definitely a plus. There's something funny about naming every male character Dick.

The men almost ruin this drama. But this did have two wonderful ladies early in their careers. The sweet innocent one - Loretta Young. So young and so beautiful. You can't help but melt with her face on full display. The vamp - Myrna Loy during her femme fatal period. This was one of her more natural dangerous women roles for her. Sadly the movie wasn't much. Not even with decent comic moments with the two old men J. Farrell MacDonald & Harry Stubbs could save it from becoming a yawn of a story.
