The Thrill Hunter

Appropriately for a movie about a pathological liar, this movie's ambition far exceeds its scope. The climax wraps up much too quickly, using only a few of the elements established in the narrative. But the film has an endearingly cartoony sense of humor. It speeds through the set-pieces with that silent movie fast-forwarding that makes it an enjoyable product of its time. The film has its flaws, but at the end of the day, it entertains for its brief runtime.

I have a soft-spot for Buck Jones, even out of his western element doing comedy. He's not so much a cowboy here then a compulsive liar and getting a Hollywood career because of it. A action hero without a clue what he's doing, and always a great big lie coming out of his mouth. It's a Columbia B-movie and delivers what it's supposed to. An hour of simple entertainment and little else.
