Mix of Dumas and The Ritz Brothers isn't good comedy or drama.

The 3 Musketeers is a brilliant comedy directed by Allan Dwan. By the films release, Dwan was already a masterful director with over a hundred silent and sound features under his belt. This was his second Dumas adaptation after Douglas Fairbanks in The Iron Mask; like the fairbanks film, Musketeers has some great and exciting fights and stunt work; unlike Mask, its wisp of a plot has only a bit to do with Dumas and a whole lot to do with the Ritz Brothers. I've grown to love zany The Ritz Brothers, so discovering they did The Three Musketeers (1939) got me excited. What a wild mess this was gonna be. And yes it was a mess, but not enough Ritz Bros shenanigans! Instead Don Ameche sings-up much of the time keeping the Al, Harry & Jimmy from ripping the place up....

They don't make 'em like this anymore. Thank God for that
